I want to buy a Saab Aero & have 2 good contenders:

06 saloon, 99k miles, GBP3600, 210bhp
07 coonvertible, 42k miles, GBP9000, 250bhp

I can afford either but wonder whether the 'vert is worth the extra money.

Opinions, please?

For that price difference only you can tell - surely it'll be based on condition.

I should add that the vert is a 2.8 V6 turbo as opposed to the 2.0T- it accounts for some of the price differential.

The convertible is the best car they make and with that mileage difference you could with driving average mileage drive it for about 4.5 years before it gets to the mileage of the cheaper one.

Are the convertibles still as bad as they used to be for 'scuttle shake' ?

Thanks for the input- I'm going for the saloon.

I have some clients who'd be petty & jealous if I turned up in a car that might seem superior to theirs; the saloon is fairly innocuous to non-PHers & I can put some of the money saved into a remap & a few track days.

Unless you want a convertible don't bother, heavier, wobblier (they put a lot of effort into the shell rigidity) and less secure, non of that matters if you want a convertible I guess, I have a saloon and its ok, would not say don't get one but you can probably do better, as standard they move ok but they are a bit tame, the remaps (mine is the BSR) gives it some decent poke but watch out for stuttering on boost which I sorted by re-gapping the plugs down a bit and the clutch can complain, mine slipped for a while but seems to have got its act together, I suppose nearly 300 lb/ft is asking quite a lot of it ! I went to buy a 330i BMW but realised that it didnt have 3 lap belts, this, remapped feels a lot quicker though, not sure if it is but it feels it, the mid range is epic.

I put the Eibach springs on when one of mine snapped, and ok they arent the last word in feedback but they will corner as fast as you dare, very planted and the rear wheel steer does make it more nimble than you would expect, the ut the power down quite well as well. The gearbox on mine is a bit clunky, some of the trim can be a bit poxy but mine is an early 2003 car and they did improve matters.
