There IU am, happy pootling along at 65mph, passing a lorry in the middle lane at 6am this morning & the car approaching from behind decides not to go around me, but to pull up a full 3feet from my bumper & try to intimidate me off the road. Once passed the lorry I pulled back into the inside lane & recieved a load of hand signal from the cock as he passed.

Now I can't see that 65mph in the middle lane is an issue, especially given the lack of any traffic in the outside lane, or am I being the c0ck?

Nope, perfectly reasonable, he could have overtaken you but chose not to and got angry instead. You've done nothing wrong but I'm sure one of the PH arbitrary contrarians will be along in a minute to start the punch and judy show smile

I think you know the answer to this.

If an overtaking lane was available, then the other driver should have used it and been on his way. Assuming there was any sort of a speed differential between yourself and the lorry, there aren't any grounds for gesticulations.

However there's all sorts of knob jockeys out there, the best response is just to let them get on with their pitiful lives. The other driver will probably have lots of points on his licence and has had multiple accidents - and he probably believes that he's an excellent driver, the rozzers are out to get him, and the accidents were everyone else's fault.

wouldnt say theres really an issue as you were using the motorway properley.

he was being a cock.

if your cars capable of it id at least try and do 70 on a motorway though.

i wouldnt worry about it, i used to get myself into 'situations' over this.

now i just take a deep breath and relax, there is no educatiing st drivers.

I always feel I am pootling on a motorway. . . when it's very quiet, regardless of speed.

65 mph, 5 mph off the maximum speed, not dawdling, a spare lane and you were overtaking a slower vehicle, assume you signalled and moved out in plenty of time so cant see his issue, suspect he was in a "premium" german saloon and was thudering along at 100 mph and took issue with your "dawdling", basically once you go outside the speed limit you need to account for your own actions and not expect everyone else to accomodate, that doesnt absolve anyone within the speed limit from responsibility but really the faster you go the more the onus is on you.

Were you indicating? How close was he when you pulled out. I find it strange that someone would get upset about someone else overtaking (when there is a 3rd lane free) if there were no aggravating factors.

wouldnt even do that winds them up more!!

as disussed a million times the road is awash with bellends.

thing is nobody acts like this when walking around town but as soon as they get in a car they go mad!!

i was filtering to the front of a Q got to the front of the lights, the road was coming to one so the bloke at the front tried to 'race' me off the lights because id got in front of him, if i hadnt have accelerated quickly i would have been knocked off and potentially run over.

i wasnt going to hold him up so i dont see what his problem was.

i just dont understand it.....

This is true, although I don't mind this as they aren't scared to use lane 3 like Mondeo man.

Nothing wrong with doing 65. Or 56. Anything below that, however, is likely to cause problems, as you force HGVs around you.

I don't entirely agree. I've tried many approaches, and the least stressful one has always been sitting in L1, letting all the irate people rush past me. At 70 you have to actively switch lanes, be aware of people steaming up from behind, on a crowded M25 it's just far more hassle than it's worth, especially as the roadworks and inevitable queues means I won't arrive any quicker anyway.

And it saves fuel boxedin

When on the rare occasion I am passed and the driver starts mouthing off and making guestures with his hand, I look at them, smile and mouth "Thank You", and give them a thumbs up.
