What "Weekend Car" With 4 Seats
Discussion
I'm looking into a "weekend car" for when I finally get a double garage in which to keep it safe, looking to spend no more than 15k if possible, don't mind a project as long as it's safe, legal & above all different.
It must be able to seat me, SWMBO & our two children (9 & 6).
So far I have
Maseratti 3200gt
Maseratto Quatroporte
Posrsche 911
TVR Cerbera
Aston Martin DB7
Bentley Mulsanne
Rolls Silver Shadow
Bently Arnage (just)
Jaaaag MKII
As you can see, I'm pretty easy on what it is as long as it makes me feel "special" when I'm driving it.

Not sure you would comfortably get kids in the back of it, and for £15K you would be talking your chances on a leggy one but the DB7 appeals to me personally.
If you are going to be taking the familt then you want something comfy and wafty I reckon, not how you would normally describe a 3200Gt, Cerbera or 911.

All great choices but personally I find I get bored of Automatic cars very quickly so have a think about your real usage which should dictate one or other.Maseratti 3200gt

Also I decided against a Cerb as it's real trick is massive speed and its not exactly a 5* car so it's not what I wanted my kids to be in.
I'd get the 4200GT just in budget IIRC
Or this
Maserati Quattroporte
Carries 4 in comfort, handles superbly but is still comfortable, glorious engine and IMO beautiful.
What more could you want?

Really? Forgive me if I am wrong but I'm not convinced this is what the OP meant by "different". edit: having just read the OP's reply, look like I was right.

Sorry Rob, wasn't intenting to offend. Keep them coming, feels like an old school PH thread.
None taken. I know much of the Jap stuff doesn't do it for many people.
The Quattroporte is lovely, Im sure that would feel very special!

I looked at them half an hour or so ago, but even if you go to £20k, you're still looking at a 1600 kent. Yawn.
Are the old ones as lightweight as the new ones? Does it have to be massively quick to be enjoyable and will the lightness make it 'feel' a little bit spritely? Also there's so few around including this one that surely they hardly depreciate anyway?R500POP said:

Are you able to narrow down what you actually want from it, what you'll use it for and how much?It must be able to seat me, SWMBO & our two children (9 & 6).

Seems your choice/list is more "cars I like" rather than serious prospects of cars to view and ultimately buy.
How often are you likely to use the car?
For how many miles per year (est)?
When you do use it, what will it be for, e.g. will it be used as a 2nd car, will it do the school run, supermarket or commute to work, or is it purely for fun?
In regards to the above, what types of roads, is it mostly motorway, fast dual carriage way, A roads or more tight and twisty B roads and back roads? Or mostly city/town use?
When you use it, what for? Will it be to take to shows, to compete or display at shows, to drive fast, to enter competitions, to take on track days, to drive to the pub, to cruise in, to use to take the family away for a holiday?
Do you like tinkering?
Are you interesting in modernising or modifying any purchase?
Are residuals an important factor?
Are running cost and maintenance costs an important factor?
Answers to these question will help you select the suitability of any cars you are considering, this should help you focus your efforts on looking at cars that are worth looking at.
