Vauxhall Rake Concept

I think this is a genuinely interesting development for EVs.
With big battery packs, you get a good example of diminishing returns. For a bit more mileage, you get a lot more weight, a lot more cost, and a lot longer recharge times.
But Vauxhall have made this concept as light as possible and the battery as small as possible, so although it only has a small range, it re-charges very quickly and could retail at Euro12,000.
As an urban commuter, it makes so much more sense than a Smart car or similar.

Looking at the tyre profiles, does that tilt in corners?
It's pretty hard to tell from the text and photos. It would make sense if it did - the technology is there to do it - but if it holds its batteries low and has quite a wide track at the front it may not be necessary.Hmmm, looks like it stays upright, which begs the question why fit bike tyres?

Maybe they wanted to fit a tilting mechanism but some patent or other prevented them from showing it with one? Or maybe they just used bike tyres because they are the only ones available in the size they wanted?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg5_MuRDQ04
Dunno. Guessing.
I like it, an example of car and motorcycle thinking combining in one commuter vehicle.
I can see this sort of thing becoming 'the future'. Motorbikes and narrow, motorbike-inspired cars, either running small petrol or electric motors as commuters, larger cars for carting people and stuff around at the weekend.

I don't know why car companies associate outlandish design with electric cars.

Nice link! I don't know why car companies associate outlandish design with electric cars.
I think that freeing themselves from the packing constraints of an internal combustion engine allows designers to go crazy. I'm all for it. Not everything will work, but I like the idea of tandem 2-seaters. They make more sense than Smart cars etc.
