Going to Switzerland tomorrow and the ferry gets to Dunkirk at 2 am.

Was going to carry on driving, but have decided a hotel might be appropiate.

So if I book an F1 cheapy hotel, will there be any issue rocking at 2 or 3 am?

Will they have let the room go or locked the doors?

If you reserve with a credit card (you might be able to pre pay), they will hold the room.

It's been a good while since I last used one, but some of them used to have an unmanned reception/check in area in a lobby outside the front door. You just inserted your credit card and the machine spat out a door code or electronic key.

Might all be different now though.

ETA: just checked their website, you have to use your credit card to enter the hotel after reception hours (assuming it doesn't have a 24 hour reception, which many of them don't).

Shouldn't have any problems.. we did the same thing when driving over to the 'ring a few years back. Caught a pretty late ferry and arrived at our hotel F1 just on the German border at about 2:00am. No problems getting to the rooms, though it wasn't one of the automated ones and had a (surprised looking) chap on the desk when 6 cars full of people appeared that early in the morning.

But being such a quality establishment, we did all have a dreadful nights sleep.. the beds were like military bunks, the people in the next room were having the loudest sex ever, the night staff went out for a cigarette and a loud chat underneath my bedroom window at about 4am, and some kind soul had programmed the radio to come on loudly at 5.30am. I think I'd have been better off sleeping in the car, parked by the side of the motorway! wink
