It might in the wet, unless the grip from them is the same. The usual recommendation is never mix tyres across an axle.

You're
As much as HellDiver annoys me, you've got to laugh at that smile

Edit - It was funnier before your edit. Now it's just annoying again.

Lol guys, that is a horrific spelling mistake.

So, I have gone ahead and put it on, the car - mercedes cls 500 06, is now coming up with tyre pressure warning signs all the time and my mom is saying the back end feels loose. Had the tyre fitted by a mobile tyre fitter as I'm away.
Will ask her to check tyre pressures, what else could it be

'an horrific', shirley?

Poor old OP, he only asked a tyre question. hehe

Back on topic, I really don't know the answer, but as a rule of thumb, I prefer tyres to be exactly the same make, model and tread depth on the same axle, if at all posible.

Different treads and manufacturer compounds must have slightly different characteristics, that you might only notice in extreme circumstances, such as very heavy braking in torrential rain.

Anything that is likely to stop the back end overtaking the front is all good imho.

As someone who's driven sheds for years - I'm amazed when I get a car with 2 tyres the same BRAND on the car (including the spare!!) smile

It's not going to kill you - but if you're the sort of person who notices any change in the way their car feels when it's driving, you'll probably dislike it.

This thread is typical of what pistonheads has become. The OP asked a reasonable and quite important question and gets posts of complete garbage.

Well said. Too much sarcastic drivel to wade through on most threads now.

To answer the OP, providing the tyres are the same size then legally that is all that is required. My Lexus beater has 2 different brands on the back and 99% of the time it is grand. When the time comes to put new rubber on it will be 2 identical tyres though.

Well, at least a few of us have commented on topic, unlike yourself, so not complete garbage, eh?

personally I wouldn't do it

particularly not on a big heavy powerful car like that

its inviting trouble and, whether trouble chooses to attend or not, she at least has an invite
