Garages selling jobs.....

Pretty peeved today.
My missus Jazz needed a clutch so I phoned around.
I was quoted over £600 by Honda, my local garage a 'Honda Specialist' initially quoted me £500 and Mr Clutch quoted £375.
I went back to my local garage with the price from Mr Clutch and he said he couldn't match it best he could was £460.
Explained I'd prefer to use him as we have done in the past but it was the missus' car so she'd probably go with the cheapest.
He then phoned me back an hour or so later and said he'd do it for £400 'for cash'
Happy days.......!
Until today when...
My missus dropped the car off and was given a courtesy car which was a surprise!!
She walked down the road to locate the 'courtesy' car and when she got to it she realised that she'd left the child car seats in the Jazz so she hot footed it back to the garage to find the Jazz gone.
Long story short..............he'd got another garage/mechanic locally to do the job for him and the car was no longer with him. Really p****d me off as they are a 'Honda Specialist' hence why I am keen to use 'em.
When I picked it up this evening I let him know what I thought! I just wish he'd been honest about it instead of saying 'yeh, I can do it' then selling the job to another garage (and making a few quid for himself no doubt!)
I know it's only nuts and bolts and it doesn't really matter where does it as long as the job get's done but his dishonesty annoyed me. If he'd said 'I can't do it but I can recommend a man who can' I'd have gone on his recomendation, but I could have easily found some back street garage myself to do the work without paying him a bloody 'finders fee'

I can understand your frustration, especially as you have looked into the options in detail.
That said, main dealers subcontract lots of work these days and make a very heavy mark up.
I would try to find out what make of clutch has been used - fitting is easy but you may be running a reconditioned clutch.
Good luck
