Bikes in the back (a what car..)
Discussion
So, my trusty mondeo estate is soon on its way out, so I'll be in the market for a new car soon.
I don't want a hot hatch or estate, I'd much rather something sleek. However, I want something I can get a mountian bike, with only removing the front wheel, into the back of. I think this is pretty much going to limit me to 'liftback' coupes. For my 3-4k price point I have the following in mind (I'm perfectly willing to have a 'ropey' example of something)..
Seems I can either get a hot hatch in drag
Integra dc2 type r (nice, but sadly fwd, and getting on a bit)
Celica gen 7 190 (seems to be a slightly softer version of the integra, but much newer for the same money)
Alfa GT (might not be able to find the v6 for this money)
corrado vr6 (don't really like these)
calibra/cougar (don't really like these either)
racing puma (too small I think)
audi tt (don't really like these)
or something with rwd..
rx7/supra/300zx (I think these are all a bit small for getting a bike in)
200sx\328i (might be able to get a bike in, despite the rear glass not moving)
older 200sx (s13) (bit old, very cheap though)
Porshe 944 s2 (its a porsche! its also old)
Avantime (awesome, but probably terrible to drive)
Camero (I really don't like how the 90s generation looks. the 80s gen is awesome looking, but not all that quick, and pretty old, and lhd)
hyundai coupe (too slow)
the first catagory is generally more spacious, due to less drivetrain in the way, but they're also fwd (which is ok, but I'd prefer rwd) and often a little sane..
Ideally, I'd have a v8 ute, but nothing even comes close to my budget :'( are there any cars I've missed? I also surf, so need a roof i can get a board onto (which pretty much rules out all drop tops). I won't have a boot or roof mounted bike rack, but I would consider something I could get a tow bar hitch for (again these seem pretty rare for coupes)
