I'm not happy.

Was in Sainsburys and they called my reg over the tannoy. Fortunately somebody saw this happen and left their details. The BMW reversed out of their space and clipped the rear of mine.

A Witness saw the entire thing and got their reg number and told security in store.

I have gone to the Police, done a self accident report and left it with them. The BMW in theory has until 13:40 today to report the accident.

Now for various reasons I do NOT want this to go through the insurance. The car is a lease car and goes back in 4 weeks. I will get stung if a, there is damage on my car & b, if I have made a claim on the insurance. But I do want to get the money from them, or their insurance company.

So with the police chasing up the other car, Can I also chase it up with their insurance company to get the insurance company to cough up. How would I go about finding out which company they are insured with?

I have checked the car reg and it is on the askmid.com database.

If they dont get in touch, simply have the car repaired, then get a solicitor to get the money from the other driver. . . . .

Damn, I had this a few years ago. The other car left a piece of grill behind but I managed to find it (and her) and took photos of her car with my blue paint smeared down the side. I went to the police with the photos of the car and said she'd confessed but they couldn't follow it up on some daft technicality.

She cost me about £600 but I never realised I should have taken it further with legal action.

You live and learn I guess.
