I do not know if this link has been posted - but seriously makes you sit back and think. I found the link via the audi-sport forums.

My biggest fear is being trapped and burning.

Terrifying.

Very moving!

I have the up-most (sp) for the Emergency services. They are the people we rely on in situations like this. We (not us directly but the general public), should give them a lot more respect!

Dunno what to say. Brilliant writing, very moving. Should be made compulsory for all the smart-alecs who like to slag off the emergency services. I am writing this on the 15:48 from Paddington, and we have just passed the site where 12 years ago on an October morning I clambered out of the London-bound train that crashed at Ladbroke Grove.

I was powerfully reminded of the sight of the Fire Fighters who arrived early before the rescue kit, They did absolutely everything they could to get through the anti-vandal fences to help us. My respect for all our emergency services teams is boundless.

Thanks for posting that.

Very thought provoking and has probably made me think about my attitude towards the Police. Thoughts with those who have to suffer so much and watch their own death slowly unfolding in front of them, it really does seem very unfair.

As a serving police officer, I can tell you that although the trapped man burning to death is thankfully uncommon, the latter half of the story where the author describes the attitudes of motorists who demand to be let through is an almost daily occurrence.

I know it's an inconvenience to have to take a detour, but please bear in mind we don't close roads to annoy you, it's because there's been a serious accident somewhere up ahead and it takes time to do the necessary.

Given the choice between being delayed and having to find another way to my destination or burning to death, I know which I'd pick.

Why didnt he tie a rope or cord around the door frame and use his car to pull the door open.

As others have said, horrible way to go. It's what I fear most if I was to be involved in a crash.

Perhaps he didn't have one. They're not routinely found in regular police cars although traffic units might be an exception (not in my force, anyway).

Wow.

Someone once told me that traffic police have to be a hardened bunch, as they often are the first on the scene, but it has never really hit home until now. I would imagine that the officer involved will never forget that day.

I find the lack of respect for our emergency services staggering.

In my area we dont carry fire extinguishers. They have been removed from our vehicles. Something to do with training.

Plus just a note on the above about traffic being a hardened bunch. Again in my area traffic would never be at an RTC like that. Due to their limited numbers and huge area unless its immediately deadly series they dont go. Its your bread and butters that get the majority in my neck of the woods.

What an awful way to go - made even worse by the fact that he knew what was going to happen frown
