I'm currently mulling over the idea of trading in my Alfa 147 Ducati Corse and getting the new Giulietta Cloverleaf.

I took one for a test drive last friday and, well, I may have fallen in love with how it drove, looked and felt to sit in. It's great at cruising around in comfort but there's plenty of grunt when you want to use it! The interior feels solid & of good quality, and the exterior is original which in my opinion is a good thing... The reviews seem to be pretty good in general too which is promising.

So I can afford the car on finance but I'm not sure if I want to commit to paying the car off over the next few years.

What do you guys think about the car?
Do you think I should go ahead and buy the car and set an amount of my income aside each month for savings or hold on to my current car and do the 'boring thing' and set a considerably larger amount of money aside each month for savings?

The petrol head inside me says get the car but the sensible person says keep my current car and save my money...

Let me know what you guys think; all opinions are welcome - no matter how brutal they may be redface)

Jimbo.

I adore Alfas, and I long for the day I can afford a new car, BUT, they're just too new for my liking: rather than be the guinea pig (as all first-model owners are) I'd rather wait 'til the first major facelift. At least by then, any niggles will be known, and who knows, addressed. If there aren't any major issues, bonus: pick-up a nearly new one and save a fortune in depreciation...

I read a review at some point that mentioned: "It's not a Golf, which is why you want one, and also why you don't".

Personally I think they look fantastic, I genuinely like seeing them around, but I wouldn't spend my own money on one unless it had VW group underpinnings.

Hope you enjoy it if you go for it.

Interesting conundrum, and one that in trueness only you can make based on your opinion to credit and lending.

I normally condsider do I actually NEED it or just WANT it. If you didnt have a car , needed one for work, could afford the monthlies then I say 'why not' its pretty normal, you can afford it and you need it.

However in your situation, you dont actually need it, you just want it. You have a perfectly good (and actually very nice) car in your existing Alfa and have identified that it might actually be more sensible to keep the cash aside for another time.

You're not on the planet for a long time so go for it!

I drove one for a few days when I was offered one as an upgrade on the hire car I had booked and I really liked it, a few annoying things but then all cars have those. I really liked walking up to it and looking at it because it's so much better looking than pretty much anything else in it's class.

Thanks for your comments guys, it's reassuring to know that I'm weighing things up in the same way that you guys are.

I think NotKenBlock has hit the nail on the head. I don't actually need a new car, the one I have is great and I still really enjoy driving it!

I guess the only thing that plays at the back of my mind is the question; will I have this opportunity later on in life.

Jimbo, you also brought up a point that I had already considered. The model hasn't been out long and I'd be surprised if there wasn't a need to sort out a few bugs...

Right now, I think I'm going to stick with my current car. Although I may have changed my mind again by the morning!

Thanks for your help!

Feel free to continue posting your thoughts redface)

Have a mito so not exactly the same but here goes. Bought it pretty much on release day, no major issues the only thing we have to keep an eye on is oil usage. Build quality of both interior and exterior very good. Servicing is cheap due to intervals and get good mpg from it. Don't know if you get the option on yours but we went for the red dashboard as had seen it on another car. Looks stunning but Tue brochure pictures made it look far to bright to be anything other than hideous.
Insurance is fairly high (£200) more than the elise, and dealers have been very helpful.
Not sure we'd buy another but only due to the fact that the garage is full and no room for another car in it which means in winter time it is difficult to get into it due to the frameless Windows freezing and not dropping. This is more a problem with window design than specific to the alfalfa though.
Hope this helps at least a little.
