Hi all,

Not for me, but a good friend (old boss!) is looking for a new car.

Currently has a 996 C4S Wide body and is looking at an R8. £60k would be the proposed budget.

I've said get the 997 Turbo (just my preference, nothing against the R8), in fact, I've said for driving enjoyment get the 997 and for posing get the R8.

What else would you suggest? Anyone who has driven both, what would your verdicts be?

From what I've read, I'd say the R8 is a better drivers' tool than the 997 turbo.

Nissan GTR maybe?

Aston V8V or DB9?

Loads of cars fit that criteria.

Maserati Gran-Turismo
Audi R8
Aston Martin DB9
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Ferrari 360
Lamborghini Gallardo
another Porsche 911 (977)
Nissan GT-R

Depends on what type of car he wants.

If he could go to £68,000 he could get a nice Ferrari F430 F1.

How about a Bentley Conti if he uses the car for long distance journeys?
I would be looking at the GTR or Gallardo if it was my money

As said above- what sort of car does he want? Alot of lovely cars in the 60k budget

I dunno. A significant proportion of people buying cars like that use them to show other people how rich they are. hehe

He is a keen driver and it would be used for everyday duties.

Currently driving a 911 C4S so needs to be more everyday than a 430 I guess.

Not sure the Nissan would be his cup of tea but I didn't even think of it which is a poor performance from me!

I'll email him this link so he can see the suggestions.

Thanks all!

What proportion of his driving is long distances? If it's a relatively small amount, he might get more enjoyment from buying a 50k GT and a 10k Caterham.

Ah right because I was going to say stretch further and an F430 Spider....

Ok, a DB9 Volante then....

Or I guess if he wants to stay boring, get another 911...

Hmmm... I'll suggest that although I don't think it would suit as I'm guessing the Caterham just wouldn't get used.

Not driven either, but for this budget I'd be looking at:

-Lotus Evora
-Mustang Shelby GT500 (or a 5.0 GT with a supercharger)
-Corvette C6 z06
