I'm after a replacement for my '02 E46 318i. It's not very engaging to drive and the way things are going it'll be worth not very much at all in a couple of year's time.
I've been thinking about chopping it in for an E36 328i coupe which could be had for around what I could get for the E46. I also believe that they're not likely to depreciate much more which could be useful as I tend to chop and change every couple of years.
I'm fairly certain I want to go down this route, but is there anything else I should consider of similar performance and capabilities before I go for it?

VW Corrado VR6? They're not RWD but a decent drive and seem to be holding their value too.

To be honest if you're sticking with the RWD I can't think of much better than the 328!

I think I need a bit more practicality than an MX5 as it will be my only car.
The Scirocco is noted, and I'm fairly certain on the 328 but I suppose I'm just after some confirmation that I've not missed something obvious.
