Well not exactly for me but for my folks, they are thinking of trading in the old TT that they have had since new (225 model) and its W reg or so.

They are looking at a TTS for £25k, something like this:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3236071.htm

bit newer and fully loaded with less miles on it.

He asked my opinion and me being me suggested a poreche of some description like a Cayman/996, etc...

Something that is a bit more involved and wont lose as much money, but in the TTS there is loads of room and luggage space, not sure how that was worked out!!

They already have an 2009/10 S3 in white (dont ask about the pearl white its just something they are going through at the moment)... so its not the primary car but more for them when they want to use something different.

So it needs to be a coupe, good handling, quite fast, not lose money faster than Las Vegas gambler, pretty (mum likes pretty cars) and have a decent amount of space/luggage room.

Wonder if the M6 fits all that now?

M6 running costs would be a fair bit steeper than a TTS or Cayman.

What about another 6 series? A 650 or 645 maybe.

The 6 series would depreciate less now, I imagine a Cayman would hold it's value better than a TT too.

Jag XK / XKR should be seriously considered.

Big car or small car?
I'd take a guess if it's replacing a TT they want a little sporty thing rather than a big tourer?

BMW 135i coupe M sport could fit the bill. Big engine, in price range.
Similar size to TT sort of.

Well that's the first time I've seen someone imply that the M6 is "pretty". hehe

I can think of worse cars than the TTS.

If that's what they want, why not.

If they're not really enthusiasts I can't really see what a Cayman or 996 will offer. The TTS will be as easy to live with and run as a hatchback but in more sexy clothing.

A Porsche, while great is likely to be a more dedicated ownership.

Not sure I'd call the current TT pretty, looks more like it's had an unsuccessful plastic surgery facelift.

Personally I think I'd be looking at a 1 Series Coupe, although while I like them, they certainly aren't pretty either.

I'd also think it worth going for a test drive in something like a Nissan 370z.

A mate of mine has just negotiated a £4k discount on a TT 2tfsi black edition (in white) so there are deals to be had. Good car by all accounts and think they could do a lot worse.

I would never usually suggest buying new, but this is one such case that might be worthy of investigation given the fairly strong residuals and if such discounts are available.

I remember from my youth that the ones that weren't pretty tried harder. wink

If they've already got an S3 then the TTS is a bit of a strange idea IMO as it's basically the same car in a different body. If that's what they're happy with then great. I'd be looking for something a bit more different, 135i isn't a bad shout imo.

You can get a 2008 E90 M3 for that money with fairly low mileage and all the gadgets you could ever want.

Alternatively I'd have a look at the S5 with that amazing V8 rumble. Whilst it's another Audi i personally think it's one of their best looking cars in recent years.

Probably not your mums cup of tea but theres a Focus RS500 near me for £23k. It would probably hold its money better than anything else mentioned too.
