Proposed British Dakar Entry Evokes The Evoque

(Rendered) BMW-powered off-road racer apes the latest Range Rover

A British team aims to challenge for honours in the 2013 Dakar Rally, using a custom-built off-road racer that looks a lot like a Range Rover Evoque.

At least we think that's what they want to do, because the Excite Rallye Raid team has just issued this renderings of its would-be entry - attached to a long press release that makes no mention of either Range Rover or the Evoque.

It's a nice thought though, isn't it? Certainly much further up our street than Victoria Beckham, and an adventure such as this would certainly make us feel much more confident that the Evoque is a credible accessory in this 'real man's' world.*

Whatever the Excite racers look like when they're finished, underneath they've got a tubular spaceframe chassis with a rear mounted BMW straight six diesel making 275bhp.

The cars will be built by RaBe Race Cars, who can claim 15 years experience of desert racing, and have spent four years developing the car's specification.

(*Sigh. Yes, we know... but does anyone really mind if we pretend occasionally?)

Looks nice, but horrible to drive. Look at the clearance in the wheel arches, the suspension travel must be 0.0000001mm. Hardly going to look like that at the dakar is it?

confused How can RaBe have been working on the car for the last 4 years when it's only just been released?

cause the front grille and bonnet are nothing to do with developing the car?

The image is great, looks much better than the Nemisis,
lets hope that
A. it looks this good when it is built, ( with lifted suspension )
B. doesn't perform as badly as the Nemisis has done in the Dakar.( i.e. abysmal)

good look guys.
anyone know anything about RaBe?

Me thinks it's a bit further down the road than most think.;)

I hear the rake of screen is a little problem.

Well, the Niva has a well proven track record of tough off roading abilities, all around the globe. It's quick too. You'd be forgiven for thinking the Evoque is more of a school run 'softroader'?

internet said:
The Niva was an outright winner in many off-road racing rallys in the early to mid-'80s including outright wins on the Algerian Off-road Rally, Rally of the Summit, Rally of Tunisia, Atlas Rally, Baja Espana Aragon, the Paris 24, Cameroon Rally, Baja Hungry, Hungarian Raid Rally, 3 times Australian Off-Road Championship winners, a 1-2-3 in the Australian Wynn's Safari, a 1-2-3 in the Rally of the Pharaohs - and the first ever world rally raid championship title.

Only outright victory on the the Paris-Dakar eluded the Niva - though it achieved over a dozen stage wins and several podium finishes. A VFTS turbo powered Niva, Lada Poch 1800, scored 3rd overall in the Dakar in 1981 (BRIAVOINE/DELIAIRE), and 2 litre Poch Nivas finished the Dakar 2nd overall in 1982 (BRIAVOINE/DELIATRE) and 1983 (TROSSAT/BRIAVOINE), and a Niva just missed podium with a 4th in 1986 (LARTIGUE/GIROUX). Jacky Ickx gave up his Porsche to drive the 1987 Dakar with a 290hp Simca based F2 engined Niva ROC.
It remains to be seen if the Evoque can beat the achievements of the Niva, quite a tall order though surely.

An old Panda 4x4 could beat the achievements of a Niva.

Looks ace! Kind of a cross-between a Bowler Nemesis, an Evoque, and a bit of the 2 door Range Stormer concept that was in GT4!

Softroaders at Dakar..... looks like it may be turning into a smooth WRC event frown
Don't dis the Panda its a pretty little thing.
Also Miki Biasion and Bruno Saby tried Dakar in two works ones for real in 2007.

although i dont think it finished....suprise suprise.

The Coconuts from Down under, ran the chassis for this Evoque last year under this car .

http://www.dakar.com/dakar/2011/us/rider/geoffrey-...

according to the Dakar site they finished 27th Overall at their first attempt, so maybe the all England team stands a chance...
why did Aussies buy a English car?? don't they make any themselves for the desert??confused
