Evenin' all. Anyone had any dealings with the following type of motor?

Not heard much about this 2.2 variant of the engine. Got lots ofadvice regarding the 2.0.

It's just a bored/stroked (forget which) of the 2.0 version. Strengths & weaknesses should be pretty similar between the two.

as above really, watch out for timing chain stretching (happened recently on a mate's 2.2 at very low mileage and caused a significant amount of damage (possibly just an unlucky one off) and the EGR valve on my dad's x type has needed to be replaced also at low mileage but really nothing I know of other than the usual diesel things, EGR can be blanked but depending on what year can cause engine warning lights, that a decat and a remap and the car is a whole different animal.

From what I have seen on the Mondeo fora, the 2.2 does not seem to suffer to the same degree with the injector issues that plague the 2.0 TDCis, so that is a bonus. The other problems that afflict these engines mostly seem to be electrical.

Inherited a 55 plate ST when it was two years old with about 24,000 miles on it.

Never had any problems with it mechanically up to 68,000 miles.

Only problems were sticking hand brake and the rear bumper splitting on it!

Now have a 59 plate 2.2, had it since new and its done just over 40,000 miles.

I've had no issues whatsoever.

Only thing i wasn't hapy about was slow speed "hunting" in traffic at around 1200 revs, but Ford said "they all do that

I really like it, its great at covering massive miles at speed, and it is huge inside!

One of my favourite runs was from London to Munich last October, it covered the ground admirably!

Had ours since April, changed the EGR cheap from eBay (jaguar garage in hull). All the toys leather, electric everything, 42-55mpg depending on how it's driven. Great for overtaking torque fantastic. Great barge for transporting the family.
