Righto, I'm hopefully going to have £1k to spend on a cheap to run, but fun car, and I've narrowed it down to the Puma 1.7 or 106 / Saxo.
From what I gather, the Puma would be more reliable, cheaper to fix, have a better gearchange, be more comfortable... the Saxo / 106 will be faster, more exciting, drink less fuel, less rusty... I suppose when you write it like that I've almost answered my own question but the Puma does get a 5-star rating in Evo so maybe the decision is harder than I think.
So what thinks PH?
I've also considered a Phase 1 172 but I've already had a 182.
Sounds daft but I'm kind of looking forward to getting a FWD car again after the RWD cars I've had as you can just take them by the scruff of the neck and really throw them around... no doubt I'll get burned at the stake for saying that!

leggy but low on owners and unabused, it's the one I'd have if I were buying (a friend of mine is the seller)

Well, I've decided, and I am going for.................................. neither
I think I am going to go for another MX5. I have found that it is by far, the cheapest to insure of the 3 cars, and it has RWD, bullet proof reliability and is a convertible, which I do miss!
But I really want a 115 bhp 1.6 for the lightness, and the revviness and the noise of the engine, all 3 of which are better than the 1.8 even if it is *slightly* slower.
Just need to shift the MR2...........
