Hi all.

To cut a long story short I am considering opting back into my company car scheme with a 520d and getting rid of my 635d
The bonus would be that it liberates some cash for a weekend toy.

So if you had £15-£20k to sink into something special, what would you go for that:

1. Offered minimal depreciation and
2. Is spectacular to drive and feels a real 'event' after the diesel.

So far I have thought of CSL (SMG makes it a no), Tuscan (probably my favorite idea but has a reputation for being 'tricky' when pushing on?) and an Exige (a bit geeky?).

Can anybody think of anything else that might hit the mark?

Poor reason to say no to a CSL - fantastic gearbox (different to the standard M3).

For my money, it would have to be a 964 or a 993.

For overall costs Inc depreciation then Z4M's are looking very decent value.

That said, I would get the TVR, prices do seem to be on the way up slowly, and with many disappearing to the continent it'll soon become a sellers market.

Cheeky Caterham?! Supposed to not lose much money at all, but might be a tad hardcore for the job in hand..

DB7 I6 which has had the 400 bhp upgrade by Aston and generally made it much much better. Decent ones are around £18k... and it's a bloody Aston so will always feel special.

I'd agree with this, but I guess its a personal preference.

£15-20k possibly a bit low for a good one though?

Not quite as special, but consider the M3 CS is still pretty rare and demands more of a premium than a standard model. Borrowed a few of the nice bits from the CSL but was quite a bit cheaper. Also comes in manual. And if you don't mind modifying cars a bit, you could put a few choice mechanical mods to make it spectacular.

See Evo article:

If you didn't want to go as far as modifying it for fear of affecting your depreciation values, then a decent alignment set up can make quite a bit of difference.

Thorney motorsport are specialists with E46 and CSLs.

Worth a thought and maybe a test?

Buy a 10k caterham and spend the other 10k on a kitchen to keep the missus happy :-)

The caterham will be quicker than anything else listed, and much much more of an event than any other car listed :-)

S1 Elise 160.

Prices seem to be going silly - and definitely not depreciating!

Wish I'd bought one now, would be worth a helluva lot more than my similarly specced 'standard' Elise.

I take back the M3 CS suggestion, if I didn't need a boot and any practicality, I'd probably save some cash and get one of these. smile

Pistonheads: Dinner matters hehe

Try and find(emphasis there) a Brooke Double R. They've been going over 5 years, so you may be able to find one for £20k(start at £30k) and it can't depreciate that much, can it, as there's so few? Plus would feel pretty special as well. A alternative to the Caterham.
