So, drove about 200 miles today with no issues, but as I was leaving the A3 the clutch pedal went to the floor. It is lifeless. No resistance, depress it and it just hits the floor.

Fluid is full, no leaks.

Parked safeish for tonight, but will have to sort in the morning. Before I start throwing money at it, any ideas here from the many gurus?

Sounds like a Clutch Slave cylinder shot to me....the clutch end... usually give those symptoms... could also be the master cylinder but that's usually a long shot...

yes

Would also be my bar-room diagnosis.

Does the pedal return or does it stay on the floor?

It could be a broken bracket if it is made from a rubbish material.

Why didn't you drive it home? It's not like the clutch was slipping or anything.

The pedal is know to snap / break. Get a torch under the dash and have a look. They are pretty easy to swap.

Switch off, put in first, switch on when the light goes green (with your foot flat to the floor for comedy kangarooing action). I drove 25 miles home like that one afternoon when my clutch hose exploded.

I had another two dozen traffic lights over the next two miles, all at choke points.

Failure to proceed would have caused carnage in West London.

Broken release arm pivot pin (or the arm itself) in the bell housing..?

Had this in an S13 200sx once with the same symptoms.

I also had a failed slave cylinder (internal leak) in the same car, but the pedal would rise from the floor very slowly.

London traffic is fair enough I guess, but it would have been fun to get a "shout-out" on the Radio 2 traffic report. biggrin
