Hi guys, I was seriously considering buying a fiesta ST as I drove one a few days ago and fell in love, don't ask me why but I really enjoyed it ... maybe I'm just easily pleased!

Anyway I was thinking because of the new ST coming out, would it be worth waiting thus the older ones drop in price a bit?

Thanks

1. Is there ever a good time to buy a fiesta ST? Or more correctly is there ever a reason to buy one?

2. There's always a new car on the way, or a facelift or something. How long do you wait?

3. Are you happy to pay the price now?

4. Or are you happy to wait?

5. How long do you plan to keep the car? If it's only 3 years and its on finance, does £500 difference in purchase price really matter?

6. If money is a driving factor, why are you looking at buying a new car anyhow?

7. All cars depreciate pretty much (very few exceptions). Waiting will mean you'll be able to buy the same vehicle for less money, but part of that would be true even if there wasn't a new car on the way.

8. Only you can make this decision.

The dont make one in the current shape, so it muct be used.

I dont think the new one (if they are making one) will impact prices on the old one to too much of an extent - their prices are too far apart for someone to be choosing one or the other.

They are cheap at the minute, if you want it, go for it

They are making a new one but the rest of your post is correct.

They are quite old now, first out on 2007? I can't see the new car affecting the price at all.

I was looking at them a year or two ago.

I found the engine was the worst bit of the car, taken straight from a Mondeo, no tuning at all. A "sports" exhaust which doesn't do much.

The chassis is a peach but I think the Zetec S handled better on the smaller 16 inch wheels than the ST on it's 17s.

I would buy one and get one of the Mountune kits fitted if they are still doing them, ST160 or 185.

My 2p.

I don't think there's ever a good time Ti buy a Fiesta ST unless you know what you're doing- have you seen what they're advertised for (not even selling for those prices) 06 with just over 15k sold for £2700, 07 with under 10k on the clock sold for just over £3.
Theres loads for sale so, if you really want one, don't get one that's in a dealer. eBay is the place for bargains at the moment. Not everyone's cup of tea but I'm pretty sure you'd rather get an 07 plate for £3k than paying the classifieds prices which are double that.

Clio 182 is the better alternative if you read the press and most posts on here.

1. As I said I drove one the other day and I loved it but maybe that's not a good enough reason? admittedly I haven't tried that many cars but I don't have a lot of time on my hands to hunt for the perfect car!

2. This is true :P

3. The prices vary so much, looking AT and PH I noticed that a lot of them have only done max of 40k with the majority alot less ... unsure why this is

4. To be honest I can't wait too much longer, just didn't want to spend out the money then see them depreciate because of the newer model a few months later

5/6. I'm not looking at buying the new one, and it wont be on finance... planning to pay up for an 07/08 plate

7/8. I know I'm probably the most indecisive person which doesn't help!

p.s. planning on keeping it for 2-3 years then swapping it, spending upto 6k on it ... better suggestions welcome from your experiences smile

I was going to suggest one to him but I got the impression he wanted a newer car.

I've just sold mine and I really loved it. Yes the engine wasn't great as mentioned but as a daily drive it brightened up my commute with its excellent handling and I wouldn't exactly call it slow. Mine was a facelift ST on a 55 plate with 43k miles and FSH and it went for £4200.

Having said that I now have a Clio 172 and it's brilliant fun. You'd be daft not to also look at a nice 182 for around £4k and see which you prefer smile

There are lots of cars at the same or less money that do the hot hatch thing much better. Even the largely unloved ST170 Focus has a much better ride in a bigger package while being as quick (and cheaper now). A Clio 172/182, Colt CZT, Fabia VRS (yes the diesel one), Mini Cooper S, and possibly some of the less powerful warm hatches such as the Panda 100hp, Twingo RS, and Swift Sport all would be worth looking at before the fiesta ST IMO.

As mentioned the Zetec S handles at least as well as the ST and has smaller wheels so you don't get quite as rough a ride. If you do decide to buy one shop around very hard and try to keep some of your budget back for at least some breathing upgrades.

Blimey that's a good price considering the ones actually selling at the moment.

A bit harsh I'd say. Okay it's more warm than properly hot (at least before you hand it over to the likes of Mountune), but I'd say it's an entertaining little car.

Personally, I'd still go for a Clio 182 given the same budget, but I've driven stacks of STs and Zetec S's and I reckon they're worth a look.

I really like Fords, they're fairly well built, they don't cost the earth and they're usually what you pay for.

But with the ST range I've said before I think Ford have missed a trick, there's just no real reason to buy one other than them being so cheap by comparison to their competition that you're willing to compromise on a few things. Ford just haven't had answers to the Clio or Fabia with the Fiesta, it's almost like they knew they had to do something, so just added a engine from something further up the range to something in that car size without any other thought and hoped people would buy it

What sort of budget do you have? Do you want 0-60 pace, good looks, reasonable economy, class leading handling, image, a practical package?

Jesus, for that money you could get a 197 - (7k not 5).
You're not looking in the right area. Does it need to be a hot hatch?
