A relative has recently purchased a 2005 c class(W203), the previous owner supplied a locking nut key but this does not fit the locking nut,he's been to see him but he doesn't have any other bits for it.

Also to mention one of the tyres has a very slow puncture, does anybody know of any good companies (in the west Midlands)that get it off or supply a replacement, the cars been taken to multiple local garage, none are able to get it off.

The locking nut has a star shape on the top, if that matters and the alloys are the 17" adharaz.

i had a problem when the locking wheel nut basically mashed up when trying to undo it, so i couldn't get the fker off. don't ask how, i don't know, but fritz's bits got it off for me (car had to go there anyway) so there must be a way!

If the body of the nut is round, you can often simply hammer on (With a BIG hammer) a normal socket and use this to release them

I have done this on more than one ocassion due to keys breaking, you will need 4 X Sockets though, as they dont want to come off after!

Either;

1. Hammer a socket onto it.
2. Attack with an impact driver
3. If it is a pin type get a piece of paper and create an impression, then match to a piece of bar using dowels or the shanks of drill bits locate and use mole grips.
4. Weld an old socket or spanner to the nut.
5. Drill the head off

Or get a key wink

PS large Torx keys can be hammered into some star drives if they are centreless.

Mercedes quoted £169.99 and cannot guarantee it will fit. So not really the best option

cheap £2 socket hammered over it will do the job.

Removed all 4 wheels and the spare from a discovery using this method.

Can probably get it cheaper elsewhere if you don't need it in a hurry.

Hmm, man selling £170 locking nut key claims that locking nuts are hard to remove... hehe

I've had this problem twice recently. Once on my Jag, when I lost the locking wheel nut, easy option. Went to my local independent Jaguar place. They had a kit which had all of the locking wheel-nuts. Removed easily, replaced with a set of s/h not locking nuts. Charged me £12 for the wheel nuts.

Second time, my Wife's Citroen C5, had it for about a year but never had cause to remove the wheels. Spotted a bulge in a tyre so tried to remove, with the correct locking wheel nut. The issue on this was it had been torqued up so tight, it bent the lugs on the locking wheel nut. To cut a long story short, 2 of the 4 came off easily with a decent removal tool. 2 fronts wouldn't budge. Ended up being drilled out, and replacing one of the front hubs. I got someone else to do it, cost about £200 by the time we'd finished !

I would suggest the first route if possible, or find someone with the proper tool. (I was quoted £45 for all 4 if they came off easily). Then chuck them and fit ordinary wheel-nuts.

These are great, mine got locked on and i rounded off the pins on her 206. The guy who makes them was only down the road and he was a top bloke coming out specially on a sunday to get them off.!

I belive this is what the AA/RAC carry, too. So i'd be driving somewhere and puncture the tyre (so it can be repaired) then with a bit of luck they'll get it off.

Try any local tyre fitting place. I'd be surprised if they DIDN'T have locking wheel nut removal kitsmile
