I love a V8, me, but I need to downsize to one for while (to go with my 10 year old Clio).

Both in great condition, the pros and cons are:

Porsche 928 GT:

manual gears: yeah!
love the design
5.0 V8
fast as...
great seats
limited room for my the other half with 10 month old daughter

Alpina B10 V8

switchtronic: hmm.
good design
4.6 V8
fast as...
lpg conversion
'comfort seats' too big for my scrawny ass
loads of room for daughter and associated baggage (pram, the other half etc.)

I only do around 4000 miles a year in total so petrol price not a big issue.
They are both great cars and never thought I would ever have either.

So which one goes, folks?

Dan

928 is a classic and the best looking Porsche of all IMHO. Easy choice.

I'd be keeping the 928. I had a ropey one, would love a nice one, manual of course.

928's are starting to go up in value especially if low mileage and good condition, i would say the 928 would be worth more if it in good condition.

I guess it depends if you would want another 928, they can be expensive to fix so if you have a good one it may be worth keeping hold of also if they are going up it may cost you more to buy a worse car in the future.

My heart says 928, my brain mumbles Alpina. But the Alpina is a great car though.

I had planned to sell both and pootle around in a £2000 or so XJ8 or A8 for a while, but as both my current V8s are sorted, I would be releasing capital as opposed to saving money (touch wood an' all that).

I see the point about going back to a 928 at a later date- a duff one will cost a fortune.

The Clio is needed as my partner hasn't driven for ages and is reluctant to start again in a fat V8. I can do crappy local London journeys in it too.
And the Clio allows classic insurance for both the 928 and Alpina (classed as 'future classic').

Deffo keep 928.

Where are you going to find another ?

You can always find a BMW M something in the future instead of Alpina smile

The B10 was great in Italy this year, the 928 great in France last year.

God dammit!

Too right. And I'd avoid a cheap Jag for the same reason.

Yup. My father-in-law's XK8 seemed a great used buy, and is a stunner, but he's coughed up aroung £3500 in less than a year. He hasn't gone to specialists though, which doesn't help.

Well, I've done it. The Alpina is up for sale and starting to feel that I should keep her already!

A cracking example of how to write a proper PH advert. Every bit of information required, good pictures and an honest and enthusiastic seller.

Hope it goes to another PH'er and quickly.

I did use a lot of the previous owner's write-up, but not much has changed in my time except a few more miles and the same care to attention. Previous owner really brought the car up to scratch...

the alpina looks nice but correct decision, you cannot beat the sight of a 928 rumbling down the road
