Evening all,

Picking up a 130i m sport this weekend (will of course add pictures). It is metallic black. I would like to give the pain calipers a good prime and then paint them in a colour similiar to ferrari yellow. What kind of paint should I use and are there any potential pitfalls doing this?

Many Thanks.

Don't bother with those expensive caliper painting kits. Hammerite will do the job just fine

Ok I admit, silly question. What i meant to say was what is the best way to apply it? I.e. Width and material of brush etc.

You'll always get a better finish with spray cans, although unless you're taking it off completely the caliper will be a bit of a pain to mask up. Other than that, to be honest it's no different from painting anything else

Hammerite is actually rubbish IMO.

You're better off looking up caliper paint on ebay. The stuff I bought cost about a tenner and came in any colour you want. Just throw away any brush that comes withit and go to a Model shop and buy a flat square modelling brush. No primer required, thick creamy paint that dries without brushmarks.

If the calipers have rust then POR15 is also epic stuff and again no primer required but expensive and not available in yellow.

As for yellow - it will show every speck of brake dust.

another vote for hammerite here, i hate those caliper paints, much harder to get a decent finish with, i do my engine blocks with hammerite as well.

Had mine powdercoated at a local place for £20, just peace of mind to know it's been done properly and will last. The nice smooth finish means dirt/brake dust doesn't really stick either so they don't look dirty at all for months.

every time i clean my car i get my hand to the back of the wheel to clean the brake dust off so i always do the caliper to or spray a bit of tfr on the caliper and my calipers have been done for over 18 months and still look as fresh as they did when i did them
