A car....Up to £3k.....not diesel......v6 preferred

I kind of swore I wouldn't do this as there are many threads already but I'm reaching the end of sanity searching for something...
So, here goes nothing.
I need a cheapo runabout for 12 months due to my insurance dilemma (expired ncd). Aviva are basically the only company in the uk that'll accept my NCD from 2008 so I'm stuck with them no matter what really otherwise I'll lose them and that's not an option.
So, I need something fairly good on the insurance side but a bit grown up with wafting potential. MPG doesn't concern me as im only doing about 4/5k a year but it needs to be reliable and full of options (sat nav I do not need as I can read a map just fine) and relatively easy to flog on in 12 months.
Currently thinking 02/03 IS200 of which there are loads but many have been chavved up and possibly owned by some unsavoury characters. Other option was an x type (2.0 or 2.5 v6) although the rear transmission issue on the 4x4 2.5 scares me.
330ci was at the top of the list but I refuse to pay £2k to insure one. 325ci was £1400 to insure. I'm going to get shafted anyways but I can't bring myself to run around in a 1.2 Clio (or similar). I'd be letting the insurers win!!

If choosing an X-type you'd need the full fat 3.0 and just make sure it doesn't make funny noises from the transfer box.
Personally with your budget I think you're likely to be heading for a leggy one which is okay if it's had a new box or it's had the oil changed at decent intervals. You'll get more car for your £ with a Mondeo
As an X-type owner I can vouch for the grin factor having clocked up a few decent trips in the last couple of weeks. It's also a lovely place to sit and trundle

Peugeot 607 3.0 V6.
Ticks all the boxes IMHO. Loaded with toys and serious wafting potential (classic big French barge). Your budget will get you a good one. Mechanically robust, and any remaining ones are likely to be well sorted on the electrical and bodywork front, as long as they have good history etc. The people who own them tend to be the sort that look after them.
Not sure about the insurance aspect though.

As already mentioned, I'd be looking at well cared for and and as low miles as possible X-Types, either 2.5 or 3.0. They are a surprisingly good steer and very handy for our awful winters.
Something I saw today and almost completely forgot about, despite the fact they have a decent rep, is the Hyundai Coupe 2.7 V6. Very good value and they come with plenty of toys.
