Have I missed something in the ways of car customisation or is it just local kno8 heads with badly adjusted timing. There seems to be an increase in cars or should I say the car of choice for local wan*ers (the peugeot 106/207 or whatever the current number is)driving by local old ladies and grumpy old men (me) and frightening them to death on the overrun.

Fortunately the old bill have cottoned on to them and are dishing out Sec 171 notices, not nearly enough though!

Can anyone explain to me what the appeal of driving such a bag of 5hite is?

Always quite amusing, although most cars will rumble and burble abit when coming back down the rev range if they have an aftermarket exhaust...... this s nothing new.

I'll definitely make a point of giving you a swerve in the Tuscan. The over-run sounds like a 50 cal unloading.

mine does it (with accompanying flamage sometimes) on overrun and 1-2nd and sometimes 2-3 gear changes. But its not on purpose - it just does it since the boost was turned up and I have a 3 inch exhaust and decat. Its particularly worse on 2nd gear overrun after an overtake, gets people to back off though biggrin

Then there are the Dump Valve noises as well - childish I know....................

As for hatchbacks doing it - probably on purpose, you can also buy flaming kits as well - bit like electronic dump valve noises a bit sad.

I used to have an old fiesta 1.1 with a straight through exhaust from the manifold aside from a drain pipe exhaust. I used to rev it at grannies at the bus stop and turn the car off and on again with the key. It used to sound like a firework exploding.

The shame.

I remember having a spirited drive in the Westfield and ended up coming on to the bypass by the Hop Farm near Paddock Wood.I gave it some beans towards the roundabout by the entrance to the farm and realised there were a few police officers standing around directing traffic to some event.I wound things down quickly, stopped directly beside one of them, looked up at him, he looked down at me and then *BANG* massive backfire from the side exhaust, right on to his trouser leg hehe

I guess he had heard me coming for several miles as it was whistle

Mini fake the overrun popping by deliberately injecting droplets of neat petrol into the exhaust.

My Focus RS does it - quite loudly - at random.

Will I get a sec 171, whatever that is?

Please tell me I'm reading this wrong !

How do you think pops and bangs are made through the exhaust on any other car ? It is not injected into the exhaust.... it does go through the engine first !, it is an off balance between Fuel air mixture when decelerating, sometimes it is needed to cool the pistons, other time just for fun.
