Anyone noticed this? A few years ago, if a driver was letting someone else out of a side road or similar it seemed to be a 'I'm aware of you (eye contact) and I'll let you out if you'd like to go (palm open, hand sideways type signal). Now, it seems to be a 'You there (point at you). Go there (point at the road). Hurry up (frown)'. Especially annoying if they're gesturing you into oncoming traffic (i.e. you're trying to turn right out of a side road.

I still do the former, almost inducing/sweeping them across the road with my hand. It is all done with a smile on my bonce and I still feel a bit uneasy that it is a bit 'pushy'.

yes

A wave across the top of the steering wheel, very much like an "after you" motion.

I usually point, not so much a point at them, I just point at the space infront of me more of;
"There is a gap for you, use it if you wish"

If the roads clear I just make eye contact, smile and then just lift my hand up with my palm upwards as if I'm feeding a Horse a Polo lol.

However if it's a busy road and I don't want to be a tt and block a side road when queuing in traffic I just make eye contact. That way if they're wanting to turn right they can't blame or try to pass any responsibilty onto me for letting them go and they hit something. Too many people assume that the other way is clear too or they're are no cyclists or motorbikes coming down your inside or offside when you let them go by hand gestures or flashing.

If someone points at me or for me it reeeaaaly annoys me. Don't know why, just does, I find it rude. i just flash lights and give a friendly wave to let someone out.

It's rude yet at the same time... you gain. I spent 3 hours parked in the middle of a T-junction trying to resolve the quandary once. Finally, someone rebooted me and I continued on my journey.

It is getting strange. A few weeks ago, whilst waiting to turn right out of my road, the car approaching from the right slowed. The driver began making incresingly exaggerated gestures at me indicating that I should pull out. He came to a complete halt and sat waving as if aboard a sinking cruise liner.

I sat still. Eventually he looked at me angrily, raised both palms in exasperation and drove off; releasing the queue that had built up behind him.

He was totally oblivious of the fact that there was a steady stream of traffic from the left preventing me from completing the second part of the turn. I prefer not to bully my way into traffic and decided not to pull out. I was on the minor road and I decide when to move off.

The other driver appeared desperate to dictate what other vehicles should do. Maybe it is part of a modern, controlling attitude.

You should have waved him on - the frustration was probably because he didn't think youhad seen him. Had you acknowledged him he would have figured out you weren't interested and moved on I think.

I do try and do the christian motorist bit, quite often. The thing I seem to find now though is that other motorists are so used to sitting waiting to be let across the flow of traffic that they just tend to switch off and start looking around in other directions.. I had it several times this weekend that I flashed (a few times) to let someone out and at the crucial moment they were looking out of the side window or talking to their passenger - so I'm approaching, the window for them to go is closing and I have to flash again.. and again... and then they finally wake up.

Flash early/when you can see they're looking. Failing that, give them a toot. If I can see they're clearly not concentrating I just don't bother...

When it comes to hand signals I try to seem polite and relaxed about it, but sometimes I just can't be fked. If I've been driving in slow traffic for a while and done it to various pedestrians waiting to cross and people waiting to pull out I'll just sort of make a head movement in the direction they want to go. Or just do nothing and alter your speed in such a way that it's blatantly obvious that the chance is there for the taking.
