Hi

Car is coming up to one year since it was last serviced (By previous owner)
Car has done barely 3,500 in that time.
On the last service it was oil filters cambelt tensioners and water pump spark plugs etc. So this would only be an oil service.

Question is is it one year on the dot regardless of milage or does something appear in the dash highlighing service is due soon?( I'm used to idrive..).

Mot is now due within 4 weeks so want to get it all done together.

Thanks for your help

It's 12months or 10k miles whichever arrives first.

You should get a beep and a message popping up 30days / 1,000miles before service is due

Checking the service manual it was done on 3/11/2010 so I guess tomorrow will get the indication.

Checking the service book I think it needs an oil change brake fluid change. It's had inspections every two years but the brake fluid box isn't ticked???assuming it's an oversight on filling out the service book.

Anyway do seat have like a 4 plus style servicing offer just like ve and BMW to encourage people to take their older cars to maindealer?

So what is the cost of an oil service then whats the cost of an inspection service at main dealer? Thanks

I've just called my local Seat garage for the price of an oil change on this car.

.....£258!!!!
Thats 4ltrs

My BMW oil change with full wash and detailing with 7odd ltrs of super long life oil cost £170.

Um Seat you take the p&ss and sadly that is far too much money.

Anyone got any ideas??

At £258 a pop... for a 51 reg car... when a 56 reg car which uses more oil and a more pricy oil due to long life costs 35% less at BMW main dealer its a joke.

Where are you based?

Nevermind - I just saw, Berkshire. I was going to reccommend a good (and much cheaper) V.A.G. specialist up in Kidderminster but guess that's a bit of a trek.. mind you, even including fuel, would probably cost you a lot less!

If it's just an oil change just get a kit from Opie Oils or something and get a good independant garage to do it and stamp the book.

£258 for a small service? I've owned Seats for nigh on ten years now and have never paid more than £130, all at dealers.

This is one in Reading. I called them gave them the detail oil service.... I was shocked. She kept saying it was all inclusive as if that took the sting out of the initial shock

I guess that's why. Mine were all in West Yorkshire. Even managed to get cambelt and waterpump done at a dealer for £250!

Try Camberley Service Centre as they used to be the cheapest in the area for me. Seat dealers do seem to be taking the preverbial with servicing now though as we had the wife's Altea serviced in Farnham last month because she didnt have time to go further afield and that was also pushing £300 for an oil and brake fluid change, which is significantly more than my 123d was for the same work from a BMW main dealer.

Why would you even call a main dealer for a 51 plate car that isn't anything exclusive or exotic?

I meant to ask that, I'd just put it through a VAG indy or a local trusted backstreet and supply the oil if necessary for something of that age / value

.... and having looked at your profile and seeing the car in question has 160k on the clock and is worth about a grand tops, just save yourself the money and do it yourself, you're hardly going to lose much on something like that come resale time as long as you can show receipts for parts purchased, and even if someone knocked you down £50 due to a lack of stamp, that's more than recouped by only shelling out £40 for oil/filter and an hour of your own time.

This is true (garage is within walking distance plus they do MOT's which is required).

I was assuming (wrongly) that like other brands they cut the cost of servicing older vehicles as such due to location and if the cost was similar to independant (which other makes do for older vehicles) it would make sense and support a local small garage network.

Give SJB Autotech near Basingstoke a try, reasonable rates, excellent service and pleasant to deal with, they have done my Cupra R and Audi for the last 3 or 4 years.

My old Cupra was a 51 plate .. after the warranty at Seat ran out it was serviced every 10k at Newtown Motors in Henley ... no problems at all with their abilities. I think I had about 10 or 11 services done there over a couple of years (car had 197k miles on it at 5 years old)
