So last saturday i was making progress along this road, when I heard this immortal phrase from SWMBO. My response of "I am only doing the speed limit" was met with "they are your leather seats to clean if I am sick."

Now what I need is a solution to this issue which doesn't involve:

  • being single
  • only visiting people on my own
  • not enjoying some of the best roads in the country
I fear there is no way out of this problem frown

Go for drives on a Sunday morning by yourself. It's ace. But watch out for horses, bikes and joggers.

Check sunrise times
Bed early
Go for dawn drive and hoon
English breakfast
Pick up shopping on way back
Cue brownie points and you'll have had a good hoon.
Trade in brownie points for collapse in front of TV for motogp/f1 and beer supply
etc

Either learn to drive more smoothly so it's not as noticeable, or don't drive quickly with SWMBO in the car.

The problem is is that stretch of road is rather yumpy (a complete hoot); and coupled with a few sharp right handers over bridge into hill over crest it could potentially make someone feel a little queasy.

I understand the idea of maybe pootling along at 30, but since moving south I don't get to drive around there often.

First, ctfu. If its your car and you paid for it alone, its your rules. No likey, no ridey.

Second, get a bike. A singleseat one with no rear pegs.

Sharp left hook to the jaw should create silence for the rest of the journey. Granted you'll need to be very far away when she comes round but at least you get to enjoy the drive.

Next time keep some travel sickness tablets handy and give them to her without saying a word or slowing down.

Personally though I'd swap her for a less moaning variety and/or stop the car and invite her to leave if she doesn't like the driving. Only one passenger ever called my bluff on the later of those options and had a very long and wet walk home. Haven't spoken since which is a nice bonus.

I love saying ctfu btw. I get a mental image of a cat doing a rocky style eighties training montage.

Leather seats are a lot easier to clean than cloth ones wink

I actually had a date once with someone who actually wanted me to "progres faster" when I was driving. Which was odd to me as it was tight back roads which I thought I was already making very good progress with. I did push on a bit more after she said that, but I dont tend to enjoy driving to quickly with others in my car.

But she did proceed to give me into trouble after I dropped her off home and texted her when I got home (About 6-7mins later) about the speed I drove home at. Apparently I takes her mum at least 15mins to get from the one town to the other. (From town to town was all back roads)

So that was just mixed messages!

I've managed to get my 'progress' up to a reasonable rate by this very method. Smoothness, maintaining the balance of the car and dropping it into bends is the challenge, with Mrs Bodge as the 'Britain's got Driving Talent' judge.

Heaving on the wheel, stamping on the pedals and trying to keep the car in shape is good fun, but is not the route to true enlightenment.

The problem is now that even at a sniff of a decent stretch of country road I get a "remember I get car sick!".

Oh, and to top it all of, she can't drive..
