Seeing that Jordan has one and plenty of others who will want to upgrade their performance.

So what are the options? Is it the gearbox as the limiting factor. From the amazing Discovery channel about the veyron the torque curve is flat from barely over idle to max revs so clearly it's limited.

So can it push out 1800bhp with ease come on girls show us your figs

Often wondered this, if something went bang it would be literally cry yourself to sleep expensive.

Quicksilver exhausts for them are about 30K !

Wonder if anyone has actually remapped one ?

The car's clearly capable of far more power than it outputs from the factory, as the OP says, the torque curve shows this, but so does Bugatti's approach. The stipulation was that it needs to be completely reliable under all circumstances, including extreme heat or cold, high altitude, heavy abuse and the rest of it - as well as operating to long service intervals.

Thanks to that, the margins built in will be very large indeed. The engine could easily be retuned to work at, as a rough guess, 25% more power than it originally had with very little risk to the components in the short term. They're designed to last the normal life cycle of a car, and engineered at huge cost, so a little extra power isn't going to spread them all over the tarmac.

Surely they're simply too expensive to buy, run and fix for anyone to bother coming up with mods for it.

There were rumours before the Supersport came out of that Russian owned one in Dubai having 1200bhp but they were obviously never confirmed. Had a silly name as the 'edition', think it began with a P.

I looked on ebay but couldn't find a tuning "chip" for one.

You want one of them electric superchargers, easy 100bhp that is.

That was the marketing hype. However the reality is many parts which would normally last on a normal car are merely hyper expensive consumables on a Bug. Look into it...

I thought the biggest problem with more power is dispersing the greater heat that is generated as a result - don't they have ten radiators or some other such ludicrous amount?

Who *really* needs more power from one? Another 200bhp added another 10mph at the top end and shaved a few increments. Where and how often could you really exploit that extra, largely academic top end.

I'd assume that the gearbox would probably be a limiting factor before the engine's maximum potential power output. It already deals with 922 lb ft between 2,200-5,500rpm - and costs €120,000 to replace if you break it with injudicious use of launch control.

When you read Pierre-Henri Raphanel's account of taking the SS up past 260mph (or even moreso Andy Wallace getting the McLaren F1 up to 240), the thought of Joe Public doing the same with no other barrier but obscene piles of money, it's quite concerning to say the least.

The idea of "remapping" such a car is as hilarious as it is ludicrous. Just sell it and buy the SS or pay the factory to modify it suitably to whatever output you feel you can handle...

How do you know this, precisely?

It only has 2 for the engine.

The point being that it still needs all of the other ones for cooling everything else attached to it that helps it generate and deploy its power.

It's no use at all having an engine that can develop heaps of power if it can only do so for short bursts or in particular situations before needing a stop to cool down both itself and all the ancillaries that help it produce and deploy that power.

Although I would be happier if mine could generate another 13 bhp for 1,000 British horses rather than 1,000 German ones, just for numerical neatness. hehe

I am pretty sure there are not that many people who get in a Veyron think that it could do with a bit more poke, the kind of people who will want to make it there own will get stupid colour schemes, crome it, cover it with china things like that.

They are a play thing for the rich, as long as it looks good going 10mph past the hotels and casinos and can spread the legs of the models they are happy.

Nah, it's easier than that. Just change down when you're accelerating flat out or at top speed.

Be careful I once watched a documentary, with the acclaimed scientist Dr Vincent Die-sel, when it suggested that to much nitrous can make the bottom of your car fall out.
