I like the look of the B6 Audi A4 Avant S-line. The one that comes with a nicer looking bumpers and wheels. However, after searching for both 1.8t models and Tdi models, I've noticed that they seem to attract a larger premium over the non 's-line' models. Are they really worth the extra? Is there anything other than the body styling and perhaps interior trim that sets them apart from normal models?

I've also noticed that in some adverts they say that it is a quattro? Are all 1.8t quattros?

The s line is largely body kit.

Hmm, quite a lot to pay for some styling then!

The sport has firmer suspension and sports seats (electronic with plenty of adjustables). Make sure you get a specced up one though, preferably with the bose sound system, its superb.

Different body kit
Firmer ride/lowered suspension
Bigger wheels
Better seats
Sports trim and steering wheel
better residuals
More desirable as a result of the above in most cases

As above have said the Sline does command a large premium, as an example i recently got a 57 plate 2.0 TDI Sline 170 BHP, why? well due to the fact that:
Sline looks better in my opinion
Better wheels
Flared Arches
Twin Exhaust
Firmer Suspension
Better handling
Sports Sline Leather Seats with lots of electric adjust options
Better equipment inside in general

They tend to be at least £1000+ more then the standard car and they are sought after. However saying that i am going to be selling mine as i have just spunked over £1200 getting a new DPF fitted to it and it just does not drive as good as an E90 BMW.

Not all 1.8T's are quattro's, the majority are fwd. Also they didn't do a tdi Sline, though you may find them with aftermarket S Line bits. An alternative is the quattro sport, which has the lower suspension and the GMBH/quattro body styling and "sports seats."

There's a few variations around but as a rule of thumb unless it's a 1.8t petrol it's not S Line and if it's not advertised as a quattro, it's probably fwd.

lol! Is the 3.0 V6 version worth bothering with over the 1.8T? I'm assuming a 1.8 would be a decent balance between performance and economy to use as a motorway cruiser. Recently sold my ST Tdci which was really economical but got a bit tired of driving a diesel!

The 3.0 is quite a nice engine actually, although no fire cracker 220hp IIRC. Only get a quattro though, for god sake dont get a Multichronic which any FWD auto will be. Quattro autos are a proper tiptronic auto box so are fine.

Do yo umean only get a quattro if opting for a 3.0 engine? Or also if going for a 1.8T? Is boot space compromised by the 4WD?

No, I meant dont get a FWD auto which will be the multitronic box as it has a "bit" of a reputation. Read more here...

I'd say stick with a manual 1.8T or if you get a quattro manual or auto are box fine.

Oh and while I'm at it, every bellend under the sun has stuck S-line badges on their non S-line cars expecting to get S-line money for then.

Stick the reg plate in here if you'r unsure, if it says Sport or SE its not an S-line.

Does this look reasonable? What sort of miles can the 1.8T do? I do anything between 16,000 to 25,000 miles are year.

Why do people do this? Sell their car, because of a baby? It's an estate ffs - loads of room.

We managed with two kids and we only had a MK1 Golf (4 door)...

Maybe he already has two kids?

Just FYI on that particular car and maybe you already know this but the 2004s the facelift version.
I have no idea what the difference in performance/engine or whatever but I DO know that the front grill is very very different.

Pre-facelifts have the bumper going through the grill IYSWIM while the facelift versions (starting some time in 2005 I believe) have the grill with just the badge and number plate on.

That grill arrangement is current through today so your 2004 version will look a little more dated from the front, while a 2005 will look much more current IMHO!

I am sure a beard can point out any other differences on the pre-post facelift.

Thats not a facelift... the B7 shape came out very late 2004 maybe a few 54 plates but most will be 2005 05 onwards.

Yeah, sport facelift on the B6 came in on the 53 plate iirc. Also, pretty sure the B6 was before they invented S-Line so its just "Sport".

We debated this for a long time
i drove estates and saloons really like how fast they were

drove both, but driving one i borrowed form work for the weekend (an s line)
i noticed it felt every single bump and even change of road surface, plus i beached it driving into a local garage. that made my mind up.

in the end we bought an 07 avant se.
