RE: Performance Version Of Evoque On The Way

Performance Version Of Evoque On The Way
That's what PH's spy network reckons, at least...
With the Range Rover Evoque launched and enjoying strong sales (so the JLR folks assure us), it seems a performance version could be on the cards.
Land Rover has of course made nothing official as yet, but a PH mole we chatted to over dinner at a Land Rover event recently (at that point masquerading as Evoque program director David Mitchell) admitted (with a wry smile) that the Evoque could "easily handle more power".
Certainly more than is offered in the 240bhp 2.0-litre turbo Si4' - currently the fastest variant. We'd tend to agree...
And the powerplant? Well, our mole reckons a tweaked version of Ford's 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost motor, which will power the new Focus ST and is expected to make around 350bhp in the next Focus RS, is an obvious contender.
Combined with the Evoque's penchant for a four-wheel drift (see Chris-R's road test), a more powerful engine should make for an agreeable hoon-machine...

Would a V8 or V6 not fit? The price it's likely to command would be high for a 4 cylinder IMO.
I'm sure they'd get less emissions from an I4 than either of those. As for price? How many people care for what kind of engine runs as opposed to it using less fuel and being cheaper to tax?I found your mole, i can narrow it down to someone with the internet, & knows how to use Google.....

Erm actually this was done in the genuine way. Our Rusty C was on the same press event as the esteemed Mr Rendell. PH in actual proper reporting shock...http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.aspx?AR=...
(FYI, if someone else breaks a story we want to cover we'll run it as well, but we always credit them.)

Was everyone else washing their hair?
Apart from you and Stuart. Obv.
Well I don't mind saying that if this goes ahead and at 350bhp, I would definitely like one as my dog mobile and general car. Great interior with lots of comforts, not too big, good ground clearance and 4wd for the snow. By all accounts it drives a bit like a tall hot hatch as well. Sounds like a good main car to me instead of the 4wd estate I currently run.
I've test driven one.
The thing that struck me was how small it was.
It's a Range Rover – one expects them to be large.
I expected it to be a small Range Rover – something like a RR verson of the LR Freelander.
After driving it I'd be more inclined to describe it as a small hatchback on big wheels.
It's awesome if that's what you want.
But it's not awesome if you're expecting a smaller Range Rover.
