missed a dvla auction, can i still buy the plate?

well not me but a customer has just been in & we got chatting, he was after a plate at the dvla auction last week i think but didn't register in time.

i know some people on here have posted up that the dvla sometimes gets in touch to say that certain plates haven't been sold & that some are still available, how do you find that out?

is it only available to people who had registered?

I think you can check on the DVLA site to see if it sold or not?
If not he could contact them & offer to buy it.
