Diesel + Propane = Redneck Nitrous. Anyone tried it?

I'm thinking about getting a Diesel (again the Escort Van experiment fell at the first hurdle, I couldn't get over the horrible smell). This time instead of getting an N/A and converting it to a turbo (the plan with the Escort was to fit a Mondeo TD engine and bigger turbo) I'm thinking of getting a Sierra TD and as well a few tuning modification (larger turbo, intercooler etc) something like this......

Has anyone tried it? Does it work? Shall I just use Nitrous Oxide instead?
