Afternoon!

Just bought some 330d brakes for my e46 and managed to blag the old discs and pads... They look good but need a good clean. They are past an italian tune up I think..

Any tips?

Or, since that's probably completely unnecessary, buy a can of aerosol brake and clutch cleaner!

That won't remove oily fingerprints and other contaminants. They probably aren't very rusty so any rust will be removed the first time you apply the fitted brakes.

Bilt Hamber Deox-C to remove the rust, Hydrate 80 from the same guys to use as a protectant/primer on all non-braking surfaces. IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) to remove grease/grime etc.

Probably a bit much to use just the once buy if you're regularly derusting/protecting fresh metal you can't do better imho.

I reckon these are scrap, I've had a good go at them but how do you think they look?

Not really worth the effort IMHO - hows the back of them looking?

Too much pitting on the disc surface there. I would just put a new set of discs and pads on and then you know they are right.

Unless of course you already have done. Didnt read the post properly.

a skim would tidy them up , but they might be getting close to the wear limit

kinda depends how much new ones are i guess

Soft pad lightly to take surface rust away. Rough up the pads with a bit of sand paper, and drive hard smile

They are scrap TBH, by the time you skim those there will be only a few thousand miles life left in em buy new ones is the advice i would give any customer with SH parts like that.

I'd just get Textar ones off of Eurocarparts, £63.60 for each front disc and about £53 for each rear- minus 25% with the offer on just now.
