It looks like I'll need some hgv drivers in the company soon - so it is the perfect opportunity for me to get my licence as well. What is the best route and the requirements for getting hgv'ed? It'll have to be c+e, but standard curtainside trailer (not hazmat etc.).

Sadly I don't think I'll be able to use it much but it will be very handy to have it for the times I do need it...

C then your C+E

CPC if you want to use your license for paid work. (I'm assuming you're the company owner i'm guessing you won't need to bother)

You need a CPC if you are the owner or operating manager, you wont get an OL until you do.

I've got 7.5t limit car licence from 1993 - I'm the company owner and it has got to the point where it will be useful to bring the distribution stuff in-house over next 6-12 months. As mentioned, I won't NEED to drive myself but it would be useful to have the qualification for emergencies etc (and I've wanted to do it for quite a while).

Edit: Currently using a partner org for distribution, but it is a bit of a pain for both of us.

I don't know at all. OP should deffo do his own research on it.

It makes it more of a pain in the arse to do (and more expensive) than just the theory and practical tests I did a few years back.

Yep, you will have to do C first.
Got both mine not so long back after 15 years of car driving. Just find a reputable company and pay that extra bit, trust me its worth it.
The hardest bit is shaking of the car habits (not sure how old you are OP?) and learning to drive to test standards. Only other bit of advice I would give is book the class 1 straight away after passing class 2 so you dont forget anything and you dont have time to pick up any bad/lazy habits.
oh and while you are learning......mirrors.....mirrors.....mirrors......mirrors.....mirrors!!!

Think he was referring to the driver's CPC, not the transport manager's CPC, although your point is still valid.
