Hi guys

well SWMBO wants a new house. this is fine. we dont need a bigger one, but she says we do? should I be worried? my boss says a puppy will give me 6 months is she gets broody. She's is the winner of bread around here, so I am not going to argue.

anyway the house she wants is quite a lot more of a commute to work. and only has space for 2 cars. One of which, will be filled by the hateful bright red union jacked roofed st box.

reluctantly I have put the golf up for sale. I think realistically sub 20mpg and insurance (I am 23) along with the mortgage. is a recipe for crippling my beer vouchers and recreational driving fund. (345bhp is only any good if you can use it)

Basically I think what's happened is I am having to grow up and compromise.

so what are the options

1)Get a better job? fked up my schooling so this isn't really an option unless someone has a job offer for me.

2) use the savings you have? no no there going on the fking house

3)get a job working weekends and evenings? I am to lazy.

4)get rid of SWMBO. I Love her Init.....

so I am thinking I could get a nice EP3 Civic type R, Clio 197 cup or Megan R26 F1. from the proceeds of the golf and put some money towards the insurance.

But what do you think? feel free to go wild with the answers and cheer me up.

P.s. sorry about the novel. what ever you do never ask them to marry you.

Hi guys

well SWMBO...
There's your problem right there.

Marriage is a two way street, and neither partner should lay down the rules as such.

You should make joint decisions, and if you cannot reach a decision, then compromise.

You sound like one of my former colleagues - his OH was highly qualified in the health industry, and she "wore the pants" in the house, and told him what he should and shouldn't have.

Not a healthy basis for a relationship at all.

Yes, this sounds like a great option.

You just sit there waiting for that well paid dream job to fall into your lap, I'm sure it will be along soon...

And of course, we all know that those who didn't excel at school have no further career options open to them...

Good luck. You may just need it.

Can we just go back a step...

Did you both move into the current house together and who pays the mortgage/bills etc. on it at the moment?

Your getting married at 23? I'm a year older than you and I wouldn't even consider it till I was 30+. If you don't need a bigger place then stand your ground, forgetting the cars for a second it would still be a huge waste of money. And you don't need good grades to get a good job.

I know How it sounds but I am not under the thumb, she has a point. we live in my one bedroom flat, at the moment.

She hasn't asked or implied that I should sell my car.

As for getting married well I have asked her to marry me so I guess we are getting married just not soon.

I think this isn't going to go how I intended. but you never no

Indeed, plenty of other options available for further schooling or gaining a trade or desirable skill etc etc.

How old is she? (I'm guessing she's a few years older than you?)

A 1 bedroom flat could be classed as being on the small side - but you can go bigger without spending huge amounts of money (your original post implied she was looking for a large house?).

What about a 2 bedroom house?

Honestly Guys you taking me way to seriously.

there's always room for improvement. but I am in my first year of a new career and its going well. I am lucky enough to have excelled in my favourite sport and made enough to buy my first flat however injury's have forced me in my new career.

I was trying to spice up a what car thread. basically I don't have enough disposable income to run the golf and have a bigger mortgage.

sorry if I have miss lead you

That was a pretty nasty reception and not deserved in my opinion.

OP, Don't sell up if you really love your car. It looks to me like it was a project, might owe you a lot of money?

All the people criticising your spelling/punctuation are just sad feckers with nothing better to do.

The problem with working out MPG is that unless you buy a car that easily gets 40+MPG, you're not really gaining enough to justify selling a car you love.

Good luck with what you decide to do, the Civic Type R is a great drive imo btw.

How about "SWMBO" appreciates that there are things that you want from the house too? ie parking for at least 3 cars?

What makes you so sure that you will get this house? Have you even put in an offer? When you have completed and have the keys in your hand *then* think about selling the Golf.

In the meantime, other houses are available, so go and look at them!

When we bought our house there was no garage and space for 3 cars off road, but as we got it cheap we built a garage and redid the drive, now garage plus space for 4+ cars off the road smile

well the trouble is it needs to be my daily I love the golf but its not a daily car.

the golfs up for 7k.

and I need a car that's fun but cheaper to run.

its not just the MPG. it gets serviced every 1k. and I am always spending money improving bits or just fettling.

I cant see why but I don't really enjoy driving it fast any more. I worry about crashing it.

basically I am thinking.

EP3 type r
clio 197 cup
meagan R27 F1 (might be out my price range for a minter)

So get a cheap snotter and garage the golf.

Is your mrs putting all her eggs in one basket with this house? If so, what happens if (when) you don't get it? If not, no issue, look for a place with more space.
