XKR/XFR or Maser GranTurismo?
Discussion
As per the title really. Looking to change my current XKR (new shape 4.2) early next year and thinking through what to get next. I really like the looks of the GT which I think has some parallels with the XKR. Especially keen on owning the pedestrian leg dicer in the nose! However I have been hugely impressed by the sheer pace and capability of my XKR and the noise is sublime. A review I have seen mentions that the Maser lacks the low down grunt and torque of the Jag (possibly slower gearbox too?) and I understand the Jag is marginally quicker on paper. That said, am I right in thinking that the GT can fit two real moving humans in the back (i.e. complete with legs and heads)? That would be a major draw as I'm not sure I can put up with the Jag's lack of seating again, hence considering an XFR too. Any thoughts or other suggestions welcome (not BMW!)...
I was in a GT only this weekend. In short, yes, you can fit real people in the back! I'm 6" and I set the drivers seat to my style, and I could still fit in the back, albeit at a small squeeze. The boot is big, it looks fantastic, the new gearbox is great, and that sound.....wow. You think the Jag is good, listen to one of these with the GTS exhaust!
I love the Jags, I really do, and I'm sure they're 100% better from a day-to-day perspective, and running costs, but the Maser does it for me.
If not, why not upgrade to an XKR-S?

I'll also be looking to change my 4.2 XKR in the new year although I don't need the proper rear seats, looked at the Granturismo and it's a fabulous looking thing but all the reviews and comments I read say the S is the one to have and they seem to be around £70k for a three year old car compared to a one year old 5.0 XKR at around £50k, for that spread I'd endure a little intimacy with my passengers.
Think I was reading on the Jaguar forum the other day that one of the guys there has just bought a run out model XFR and the discounts are substantial.

Sounds like I should book a test drive in the GT! Should have added am looking to spend c.£50 - £60k which wouldn't stretch to an 'S' (XKR or GT)! Maserati not a marque I have considered before but outside of a Rapide or 612, I couldn't think of anything else that has the coupe looks with the ability to seat 4 on rare occasions. Is the skyhook suspension worth seeking out on the GT?

The Skyhook and Bose stereo are both popular options on the GT so most have them.Granturismo S, 62K.

There are a few Granturismo S' hovering around the 65K mark.

I would have the GranTurismo simply because it is the prettiest. It isn't the sort of car I would buy for grunt, low down or anywhere else so I wouldn't care much which was faster or more powerful. It would put a smile on my face even when parked up.
Ignore the colour and the rear spoiler and I think this car is now looking pretty damn good:
It's also a lot quicker.
A little bit over budget, and not sure how good the rear leg room is but...

The rear leg room is terrible! Small children only and even then the driver will have to sit further forward than ideal.Aston Martin DB9 - 7,500 miles with Sports Pack (2008)
Hi
I've owned a 4.2 XKR - toyed with upgrading to 5.0, looked at XFR for practicality and settled on a GT 'S' . Noise is sublime, you can transport 4 adults in comfort and it has a reasonable boot. I also find the 'grunt' perfectly adequate compared to a 4.2 XKR.
Post Xmas I don't think you'll have any trouble picking up a good 'S' for around £60k.
Book yourself a TD and enjoy!

Yes, but most people are a bit taller nowadays and would have the seat further back. To be honest, I'm surprised you could see over the dash, or can you set the seats really high in the GT??Or were you talking about something completely different ;D
