Evening chaps!

I need 4 new tyres for my car, it is only a 98' 1.8 Astra, so semi racing slicks are not needed!! I have 2 local places to me that I have used a couple times in the past and they are both quoting me very similar prices but for 2 different makes of tyres. I am not going silly budget cheap as I want some grip in the wet and cold weather but at the same time I am not spending £100 a corner on 'Winter' or big name tyres.

The choices they have got for me are:

Kumho Solus KH17 @ £202.00 for all 4 to be fitted.

Yokohama C Drive2 @ £208.00 for all 4 to be fitted.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with these tyres?

Cheers smile

Jimbo.

IIRC I had those same Kumhos on my old 146. Whilst I went for them on price and availability at my local tyre place, they were actually pretty good: certainly can't recall anything bad about them!

Also try Toyo tyres. T1-Rs worked well on my MX5 and pretty cheap.

Another vote for the Kumho's from me. Had them on my last car and will be replacing the Michelin's I have on my current car with them.

I've got Kumho Ecsta KU31 on my Volvo and they're faultless for the price, I've also got a set of their KW23 winters too and same can been said for them.

I've never used Yokohama but again I've heard good things.

I've got some Kumho's on my Focus, i think they are the same model you've been quoted for. I recommend them based on their grip in dry and wet weather.

I have Kumhos on my E30 M3. Can't fault them. Had a great hoon on Sunday on lots of 'A' and 'B' roads, very wet and covered in leaves fantastic fun and no problems whatsoever. Yep, fully recommend them.

Bought 4 Kumhos new off ebay, got them fitted by a mobile tyre guy and can't fault them at all. Not sure what size you're buying but worked out at a little over half what you've been quoted, fitted.
No experience of the Yokos.

I had some that I managed to put on the rear of 2 different cars and they just went on and on. Sold them on with the second car with plenty of treat still on them. Gripped well and good value for money.

Cheers for the info. I shall go with the Kumho's, read up some half decent stuff online and your replies seem to back that up smile

Oh and if you are bored, my tyre size is 195/60/15, i need 4 tyres to be fitted this Friday or Saturday in the close proximity of Bromsgrove/Droitwich (B61) and the cheapest i have got so far is £202 wink Internet man/beer points to be awarded!!

I've had Kumho's on a Jeep and Yoko's on an Elise, both were excellent.

Not really comparable tyre types or vehicles though........

Kumho's get consistently good reviews.

More expensive Pirelli and Conti is wasted money IMO.

All depends on the car of course but unless its super exotic / super sports Kumho will be just fine.
