Lots of variables here, how worn, do they come as a set what are you fitting them to what are they going to be used for.

I used them on my track bike and had them on numerous beaters as there was a local guy who specilised in them.

It all depends on the condition and age of the tyre or tyres that are up for grabbs, I certainly wouldnt fit tyres I hadnt inspected in the rubber ( oooer ).

As soon as you drive on any new tyre its part worn

Not saying you should buy part worns without checking them out visually first but generally they're ok.
Think about it, if you buy a secondhand car you're using part worn tyres.

I used loads of them when i was young and poor! Only ever had one dodgy one, and that was a bulge in the side wall which was fairly obvious.

They are fine as long as they are not on a finance deal with an 8% interest rate and a balloon at the end! total pages from this thread? the current spread is 8-10!! wink

I picked one up for SWMBO car the other day, £18 fitted, I had a good look over it first for previous punctures, cracks and checked the date stamp on it.

I'd rather pay £18 for a part worn brand I'd heard of than £50 for a new no-name Chinese ditch finder.

I used to fit part worn Bridgestone H/T's to my Subaru Forester - £20 a pop. Never had any issues, but as it was a shooting hack and used to go to the stables/tip it never went far. I would only fit part worns to a car where I was deliberately trying to keep costs to a minimum/nor that fussed about driving hard.

I'm looking for run flats... do we think this is more or less of a risk. I'm thinking the extra bead strength on run flats ought to make it less?

I would say it depends on what your situation is?

I personally would not put used tyres on a valuable performance car, especially if its under warranty.

However, I have a cheapish 400 BHP BMW which eats back tyres for breakfast! Theres no-way I am going to throw £600 at it every few months when I can get a pair of Part worn Top Brand tyres (with 4 or 5mm remaining) for around £100 instead. I'm just very picky about where I buy them from and make sure there are no repairs or signs of damage before I use them. I have a regular supplier now who sells matched pairs with a money back if your not happy deal. I've never had any issues.

As stated above, if you go out and buy a used car, you are automatically driving around on 4 part-warn tyres, which is even worse, as you will not have had chance to look at the inner lining of the tyres before using them!

Nothing wrong at all. IMO the ones on ebay are a fking rip off though. Part worns should be £20-£30 each but some people are just taking the piss.

I bought some part worns off eBay. Nowt special and going on nowt special but they were still very good condition tyres and a lot cheaper than I would have paid otherwise (even after shipping and fitting).

Lots of my tyres are part worn but I seldom have to pay for them... I also fit/balance them myself.

IME they can be a bit of a false economy once you've considered the £10/tyre most places charge to fit them, balance them, new valve and the 'environmental disposal' charge that you have to pay.

+1 This is what I pay for part-worns. problem is though that lots of people have no idea of the value of something, and so the ebay generation will pay well over the odds for something that is far cheaper from an actual shop.

I'd fit them (and have in the past). I wouldn't buy them off eBay or mail order though.

A company local to me did my front two for £50 fitted, balanced, new valves. So that is £25 for a nice Michelin with many miles left on it.

try thetreadshop.co.uk

Im planning on buying a 350z, but done fancy forking £550 on new tyres, and they're only falkens - bridgestones would be close to £800 for a full set. whereas the tread shop sells the rears i need fo £50 each.

better to get decent brand part worns than brand new no name linglongs.

They'll usually bh about it or try and charge you £25/tyre. Go on a Saturday afternoon an hour before closing and bring cash. Don't expect a receipt wink
