With 2012 approaching a little quicker than many of us would like (a milestone birthday for me at the end of the year means i'd rather it stay 2011...) what car are you most looking forward to seeing in 2012?

It doesn't have to be something you are looking to buy - it can be anything you choose. Would be nice to hear a reason why though.

I'll start with the Toyota FT86. Possibly a little predictable, as its been the subject of many a press release, but, if it is priced competitively, I would seriously consider looking at changing into one, making it the first brand new car I have ever considered purchasing.

A few things that may or may not happen in 2012 interest me:
  • What's the concept for the new Caterham?
  • Is the Lotus plan still ongoing?
  • Will manufacturers stop chasing power and start chasing less weight?

I think 2012 might not see a "lighter is better" approach; I think there is still too much of a hangup about hybrid / electric vehicles and the past few years of development starting to come to the fore.

Once people realise that electric is not, for the time being, a viable option, there may be a move to lightweight, efficient vehicles.

Whether it happens or not, I have been genuinely interested in the less is more approach from Toyota on the FT86.

2 cars for me- the new 911- I'll say 2012 for these to start appearing here at the dealers- because I love 911s and can't wait to have a closer look; and as others have said, the new Alfa 4c- I think it looks awesome, and if it is as light as they say (850 kg) then it's going to go as good as it looks.

I suppose I could also say that I may well be changing one or both my cars next year, so my own purchases would be of greatest interest. Could be a 997TT and/or RS4 and/or RR Evoque. Decisions, decisions...

Hmm, maybe the V6 Exige?

Or possibly whatever Caterham come up with.

The Ginetta G60 is probably worthy of a mention too, if it's next year that that goes on the market.

Boxster and 4c. One is the class leader in its sector, and I really want the other one to be.

Yeah, you know, I might even wander down and test drive an FT86...

Can't see me getting too excited about anything else.

Sometimes I see a new car I quite like, but I don't look in the press and think "Cor, can't wait for that to be available".

You really think that'll turn up in 2012? It seems like it's been "almost ready" for years...
