Mytyres - is this a euphamism for "we haven't got any"?

(God help me if I've spelt "euphamism" wrong.... frown)

I ordered some tyres from Mytyres at the weekend. My order status is still showing as not having the payment taken and "Unfortunately, we can't give you an exact delivery date just yet. We'll let you know as soon as possible."

This is despite calling them yesterday and the lady on the phone telling me that they are getting them out of the warehouse "now".

I think that this is a load of old bks and "Unfortunately, we can't give you an exact delivery date just yet. We'll let you know as soon as possible" means they have no stock.

I've seen conflicting reports on this company - should I cancel the order and try elsewhere? I can imagine this dragging on for weeks...

I went to a small independent local tyre company and asked them for a fitted price for the tyres on my Z4M. They were £4 a tyre more expensive on the front and £10 more expensive a tyre on the back compared to My Tyres! This was an order of over £700. These were their prices without any haggling. Seriously, it's not worth bothering with these online place.

Have a phone around a few small local places. They're as competitive as anyone else and will usually haggle on price as they're eager for your business. And they get the tyres in (next day) and fit them and balance them for you. And you get that nice feeling inside that you've helped out a small local firm, than some large interweb warehouse.

Use Camskill. I've used both them and MyTyres. The former are great, I'll say nothing of the latter.

I've used mytyres lots and they have always been much cheaper than local places, and never had any issues.

Having said that I have never been in a rush to buy so the fact it can take a couple of weeks for them to come has never been an issue. I tend to order the tyres in plenty of time.

My wife once had a puncture, but she drove on it so I knew the tyre was trashed - I just went straight to a tyre place in that instance.

I've used them before, several years ago and they were fine. It's just this time they seemed a bit slow on the response which prompted me to read some online reviews..... I'm not in any hurry at all - they're going onto a brand spanking new car so the existing tyres are hardly bald.

Anyway - they have now taken payment and I have a delivery date.

Agreed.
Mytyres give the impression everything is there ready to go.
Camskill clearly state "No Stock, No Delivery Date" if they can't supply. Good bunch.

Agree.
I've had a few negative experiences with Mytyres, but never any problems with Camskill. The only downside is Camskill seem to have (very) limited stock. I've used Blackcircles a few times with no problems either.

I ordered a couple of tyres from http://lovetyres.com/ a couple of weeks back (site has a link to a ph'er, I believe?). Can't fault them to be honest, good communication and cheaper than both sites mentioned above.

I have no relationship with them, just happy with the cost and service smile

Camskill are excellent. I have ordered tyres on numerous occasions and they have never let me down.

I've also had problems with the OPs stated company. Weeks of 'we're expecting them in in a few days'.
Couldn't supply in the end. Took me over 2 months to get my money back.

I used mytyres a couple of years back for winter tyres mainly because I could not get decent winter rubber from UK suppliers. I did order them on the phone so that they could check on availability first.

I hope UK suppliers have a better stock of winter tyres these days, otherwise we will keep using these continental firms.

I had exactly the same experience the other day with a competitor of Screwfix whom I normally use for non-tyre related things and who are consistently excellent. If an item's not in stock you can't put it in your trolley. Everything else you'll receive the next working day. Good bunch.

The other lot (a few quid cheaper - suckered me in) were happy to take payment at the time of ordering then sent me the "as soon as possible" euphemism email. They clearly had no stock (I phoned 7 days later) and I eventually received delivery 2 weeks from date of PO. Shame if the super-cheap pricing was a loss-leader wheeze as that'll be my first & last experience with them and won't be leading to any future business.

I think it was MyTyres that caused me a headache last year. I bought a new car in November and wanted some winter tyres for it at a time of year when most places have sold out. MyTyres took my order for the ones I wanted and took my money, so I ordered a set of wheels from elsewhere. A week passed and I had a set of wheels at home, but no tyres. It turns out they never had any stock of the tyres in the first place, and refunded me my money. A very dodgy practise indeed.

Thats odd cos they don't take the money til the tyres are on their way?

I can only rate them highly.

Used them 3 times, each time the tyres were delivered promptly at cheaper than anywhere else could do.

I used reifen.com, they indicate whether they are in stock before you order.
They were cheaper than mytyres and arrived in 6 days. Paid via paypal and they inform you of the order status, although that is all in german.

Missed this reply.... I can assure you they did take the payment.
