okay, wanted to follow on from last years escapade! last year i bought myself a 1256 '79 vauxhall chevette for the winter months! st loads of fun!

basically i need something thats RWD, literally as cheap as you can get it, i.e a few hundred quid, and cheap o insure (i dont want to break the bank)

classic fords all seem to be too much these days, i was tempted by another chevette but would like to try something different! any ideas?

At the risk of posting a cliche, What about an MX5?

They all rust like buggery anyway so you should be able to pick up a beater for way less than a grand. They do have a surprisingly good heater and you have the option of roof down madness in the snow. Mine was a hoot through the winter, so adjustable with a dab of right foot and it never failed to start even on the coldest of mornings.

I was also going to suggest a leggy E36 but my 318 coupe was no fun at all over winter.

i did think about an mx5! the heater bit doesnt bother me, i rarely use them anyway even in he snowiest of snow days wink not really sure why iv just never used them.

ideally i wan a bargain car to come up, so £500 and under, i can get a mk2 mr2 for that money, but the insurance is steep (im only 21)

eta: http://pistonheads.com/sales/3258670.htm

didn't they come wih LSD's? it runs out of mot soon, but with it not being a 'classic' im not too fussed about that as the parts are more readily available etc

Very unlikely to get anything remotely driveable for under a grand now frown Maybe a knackered 1.6 LS if you're lucky but even they tend to start at a grand or so now minimum.

What's insurance like on an MR2? I know of a Mk1 going for £500. Tatty, obviously, but should last the winter.

Old BMs (E30/E34/E36/E32) can often be had cheaply but might be crap to insure.

Volvos? 340, 740, 940, 240?

Merc 190e?

By ticket, do you mean MOT or tax. This has MOT but only one months tax: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3275613.htm

Skoda Estelle? RWD, pennies to play with and fun in the snow...

Or the Rapid for the stylish, this one may be too expensive

(note question by typical Skoda owner, "I have reached my maximum budget of 601.66 but the temptation to carry on bidding is very much a problem. Would you be interested in part exchange with my girlfriend or a number of favours?")

I can't imagine a worse vehicle for driving in snow though? You must be crazy like me. I bet that merc is an auto as well!
