Could you afford to run an AMV8 on a 50k salary?

Combined household income is probably 80k+ excluding bonuses. House is all paid for, no kids and have other investments. But wife wants kids asap...

Car would purely be a weekend car.

Talk me out of it please....

Go for it. You can always sell it again.

The bigger question is how are you mortgage free already (guessing you were born in 1980) on a £50k salary?

Either way I'd say go for it, I ran a Ferrari on not a great deal more than you and I've got a mortgage!

Do it, as said above, you can always sell it and you can have the memory of owning one.

Very nice car, sound great and in comparison to many prestige cars from 2 owners I know.... running costs arn't horrendous.

No offence but there are far more wealthier individuals than me on this Earth...

Day trading, career and investing has helped me a great deal....even in this terrible climate. I do have debts though...

Of course you could.

Could being the important part!

You could afford to run one on £35k - if you bought it outright and didn't mind spending most of your income on running it (allowing for services/replacement parts over the course of the year).

The salary doesn't matter. Your disposable income is what matters - and how you intend to buy the car - finance? cash?

With no mortgage, no kida and an 80k combined income, i'm pretty sure you could better than an AMV8. biggrin

Can't do it....she won't have it. She is borderline going mad as her career has made her wait long enough....

No point even debating it...

Stretch to a DB7V12 / DB9 and the future-kiddie can go too.

I agree regarding the disposable income. I would probably put the Z4M down as a deposit and an additional 10k maybe?

AMV8 would probably cost 40k and I would finance the rest left over. Maybe 15k on finance?

You are only here the once.

Get one now, have fun in it, when she has a kid sell it.

It could be another 20 years before you could afford one again.

Mortgage free and in a house you will not need to seek and buy bigger in the future? Is yes do it.

If you do have a mortgage I'd recommend delaying it until the mortgage is cleared. That's just me being risk averse and the purchase being very affordable rather than quite a stretch.

I'm guessing you have either bought and sold many properties and made a good profit doing so over and above salary or inheritance or bought really early ie late 90's and just paid it off over 12 years.
Whatever makes no difference where or how it's a lovely position to be in.

Question id have is AMV8 or an Aston vantage from the 70/80's similar money one is epically cool and you will not lose a penny or the other which is a very cool modern Aston which will lose cash. The choice is yours.

Or then again splash out on a AC cobra 427cui or a hemi cuda or a vette or a E type. Hardest thing would be choosing which to go for IMHO.

Enjoy it.

Is a DB7 V12 really a better car than a V8? It's a far older design, the interior looks it and on paper it's no faster.

If you like the looks fair enough (never seen why people rave about the DB7 but ignore the Jag XK) but I'd be interest if there's a rational argument to justify the DB7 over the V8.

Buy something a little older, but still as special and you will hopefully miss most of the depreciation that the AMV8 is likely to suffer.

What do you want to hear?

Sorry got my grumpy head on - Zero Mortgage, but have debts? Looking to finance a £50k depreciating purchase ?

Does not compute.
3k credit card debt.
5k remaining on Z4M finance
Have a few rental properties with mortgages. But these are covered well over and above by the rental income.

Z4M will obviously need to be fully paid off. I took on debt through the years as I could better use the cash elsewhere

I suppose its the wanting kids which is making me think twice. They are fecking expensive!
