I've been on the look out for a low mileage, standard, Classic Impreza WRX Sti Type R.
After viewing some right old dogs, me and my mate were on our way home when he said "I think you're in for the long haul here - to find a low mileage standard one". To which I replied "yeah and when I do it'll be in fking.... Aberdeen or something stupid!".

I got home, and checked to see if there were any new ads since I had left the house this morning - and there it was "Impreza Type R, Low Mileage, Standard Except Back Box". Excellent, I wonder where it is..... fking Aberdeen - 520 miles away.

A MASSIVE thanks to JohnS who went to view the car on my behalf, and took enough detailed pictures to confirm what the seller had told me (generally tidy enough, a few bits of rust in the usual places - nothing that can't be sorted, and mechanically sound).

So a deal was done, and a mate and I are flying from Birmingham airport to Aberdeen tomorrow, picking up the car, and driving it back to Berkshire (after stopping in to pick up HIS car (which we are taking to the airport) on the way back!). Setting off at 3:45AM for the airport... wish us luck - I may keep this thread up to date with the days happenings if there is any interest!

P.S. Thanks once again to JohnS - a true gent

Good effort.

Furthest have travelled to buy a car was London to Rome, for a one owner 3 door cosworth with 22,000 km in moonstone blue.

When I got there he decided not to sell it!

Bought something else equally fun to drive back in instead.

If it's from Aberdeen check for rust underneath on all the soft metal.

I nearly ended up doing a similar trip to Aberdeen for a car last year. All looked good -spoke to the seller, lots of photos. So train booked and arrangements made. Then I did a precautionary HPI check which came back with not one but two Cat Cs recorded for it. Train ticket promptly cancelled.

At least this one sounds a lot better. Enjoy your trip back in it.

Well I'm (technically) awake, and not feeling quite so cheery about what today holds any more.
I'm sure things will look better once we are on the road smile

Did a similar thing myself last weekend.

Drove from Bridgend (where I work) to home in Gt Yarmouth on the Friday to pick the wifey up so 300 miles.

Saturday up to Scotland to pick up the new toy so 400 miles. Stayed overnight.

Sunday back home to GY, another 400 then back to Wales on Monday for work, for a grand total of 1400 round trip over the weekend.

This story needs far more depth, firstly, Why did he decide that, your reaction and what the hell did you buy for the journey back!

Top man. Detour to Malaig (then back again) from FW is well worth it!

Sat in traffic outside Edinburgh. The clutch judder is horrible in traffic, but apparently is normal.

Swapped driving duties with my mate for the time being, so can give first impressions of the car.

Ferocious acceleration, and it grips like st to a blanket. I can already tell that I will never come anywhere close to the limits of the car. Despite being 11 years old, it still gets admiring looks (particularly from kids!).

We have covered around 120 miles so far.... only 402 to go.....

sounds good..my last jaunt to buy a car was Torquay from Surrey last February, hadn't owned a Convertible for a while and found a lovely spec E36 323 down there. Bought it unseen with extensive scanning/photos emails, and went down on the train. sunny crisp february day with the last few miles of journey down there along the English Riviera Coast in the winter sun. The car was perfect, banged the roof down to check it worked, then thought why not!..all the way back roof down, a real test of character despite the sun, empty winter afternoon on the A30 and sun made it one of the most glorious drives..

I love going on a day out to buy/pick up a new car..enjoy..
