Trailer without a weight rating plate
Discussion
Hi,
I'm on the look out for a decent chassis to make up a box trailer for B&E trailer training and testing. The DSA regulations state that the trailer presented for test must be plated to carry a minimum 1000kg.
So far I've managed to find several potential candidates but none of them have the required plate stating the MAM.
The best candidate I have is chassis with an axle that clearly states it is rated for 1350kg and a towing hitch rated for 1600kg. I'm therefore guessing that this would be capable of carrying 1350kg safely/legally. The issue is that the chassis doesn't have the manufacturers plate attached to the A frame making it unsuitable for the DSA test.
My question is this...
As the components of the chassis are clearly plated as capable of carrying the required weight can I obtain a plate to attach to the A frame to display this, and if so where would I get it from?
Is it as simple as getting one of the plates available from eBay and plating it myself?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

You can plate a trailer to whatever weight you like so long as that weight doesn't exceed the capacity of the axles, tyres and hitch. However this weight has to be displayed on a manufacturer's plate with an identifying number.
I suggest you contact the manufacturer. I lowered the MAM of my trailer so I could tow legally without a B+e- the manufacturer was happy to send out a replacement plate.
BTW I'd wager that 1350kg is the MAM inc trailer weight, not the payload.
