DMF starting to chatter...

Question is how long to leave it before sorting it - was first spotted by an RAC man earlier in the year on an unrelated call-out. The car is a Fabia VRS 1.9TDI. I get slight intermittent chatter at idle along with a few knocking noises when first started up. Also initial clutch take-up in first gear is a bit juddery. It's certainly not the awful bag of spanners sound of complete failure. I have a 3rd party warranty, but don't know how bad the wear/symptoms should be for it to be eligible. I can't afford an outright repair bill without warranty contribution this side of Christmas.

ETA: Car is 5.5 years old and on 78k
