Autotrader has got pricey, but is it still the best and is it worth putting it just online or in the mag too? Anyone found anywhere else worth advertising? It's a cheap 2k Lupo

Ebay without a doubt.

I'd never use Autotrader.

Sold my last car for £8k on there within a week, so prices and type doesnt seem to matter.

I'd usually suggest eBay but recently it's become a joke with people bidding with no intention of buying. Be nice if they turned up to tell you it wasn't as described rather than just not coming to see how good the cars really are!!

As soon as I put an autotrader ad up I was getting scam emails a lot.

Gumtree and eBay are the others I've been using.

You don't list it as an auction nowadays you list it as a classified ad so it cant be bid on. Same way Autotrader works

Gumtree is very good, remember to re list your car every couple of days so that it does not fall to the bottom of the listings.

Sold my last car there, and I live up in the Highlands! smile

Thanks guys - sounds like Autotrader's actually not top of the list anyway plus it's £40. What put me off Ebay was seeing the sold prices for auctions - nearly all Lupos went unsold and the one that did was an absolute steal. Still, worth a try though!

I understand your point but classified adverts don't seem to attract any interest unless it's a specific car or an absolute bargain.
You search the auctions for no reserve and ignore anything classified or reserve not met. All classifieds are (from recent experience) anything upto 30-40% higher than 'real world' current value.

I advertised my last 2 cars on eBay and Autotrader, both sold via eBay.

People know that Ebay is not just an auction site now, you put the price on so its no different than it would be on Autotrader.

It was a surprise to me, picked up a £650 motor (Rover 75 CDT) for the nipper recently off ebay, we'd seen the same car on autotrader too. Went and viewed it and the owner said he'd had it up on AT for 3 weeks without a single call but he'd had a dozen off ebay in 2 days. That tells me something. OK it might be a cheap stter but there has to be something in it. What about PH classified too.

Thanks guys - it's up on Gumtree and will be going up on PH Ebay today too. Autotrader used to be the advertiser of choice, but £40 for a few weeks of advertising is just too pricey.

wouldn't dream of using Autotrader, from the moment an Ad goes live all you get is constant marketing calls, and 'gents' from Lagos perpetrating a multitude of scams!..

always used PH Classifieds and never had an issue, for the most part quick sales..

I put my old car on PH and after 2 months, all I had was scammers, wkers and cheeky fkers!

I put it on Autotrader and it sold within 3 days, cannot complain at that really. I don't think any of them are 'better' really.
