They'll have the old bill send you a letter to say you've been seen speeding and that you might want to think about slowing down.

Nothing more than that.

Guy near me claimed to catch people speeding using merely a stop watch and calculating the distance between lamposts. The list of variables he will have got wrong would be substantial I'm guessing. He was a with it as well.

would have said the same thing...until I moved to where I live at the moment, in some cases I would replace the radar gun with a nice military checkpoint. Its a very small percent of drivers but they sure do boil the blood.

You got to wonder whats lacking in these peoples lives that they have to stick their busybody noses in other peoples,

Now i fully agree with a 30 in residential areas etc enforced by "POLICE" but do we need these tossers having a go as well

Some years ago I reported a particlar well known companies vehicles that used our road as a race track.

A polite email to one of the directors and those vehicles have since been banned from using the road - never been seen again.

+1

They're usually old people or the mumsnet brigade who dont like people driving past their homes so do their best to slow everyone down.

If you aren't speeding, don't worry about it, if you are I don't think they can "do" anything. I don't think people do this for fun or to spoil yours but perhaps they don't want cars going past their homes at dangerous speeds, perhaps they have kids and pets they don't want splattering if they manage to get out despite their best efforts ?

There are some complete idiots out there, I went to pick my son up from his school yesterday (Hockey training) and a Honda Civic Type R went past at full chat, closely pursued and then overtaken (in a 30) by some cretin on a Ducati, who I suspect hit maybe 80/90 mph.

Yes but its when they send letters to someone doing 33 in a 30 with nobody other than the high vis womble around, and then the reason is how people go past schools on bikes at 90mph. Well go and fking catch them then! smile

+1 exactly, none of us like the fools who go flying round like tossers, but they never seem to get caught do they, some guy near me goes round like a prick most of the time in his chavved up barry mobile but i bet its me who gets a 33 in a 30 ticket.................

I really couldn't believe the Ducati rider went for the overtake, he made it with ease, its a straight road but its the daftest thing I have seen in a while.

I cant say I have seen a community speedwatch but I just figure that they arent doing it for fun, someone will have identified a problem and obviously it will be the older people and the mums doing the monitoring as they are perhaps they ones with the time to do it, doesnt mean that the rest of the community arent supportive.

To the non Petrolhead, matey boy in his CTR and the Ducati Rider are petrolheads and we get lumped in with that.

These impromptu speed checks will be in villages and towns, usually easy to spot with marked limits, any decent driver slows right down for these and then can carry on as normal once past, I personally don't want a letter from the Police on behalf of "Concerned of Handforth" and neother do I want my enjoyment to annoy or frighten anyone else.

doesn't matter what you do to stop this it will go on

so were are we able to speed or have fun these days..
track day not all can afford this
may as well buy lambo and get it map'd to do 30mph .
ok people that drive past schools or were kids are playing should be stop'd

If the community watch catch the same driver many times then it has been known for some police forces to send an officer to the home address for a 'word'

Just stick to the limits, you might think that you, on your own, is OK doing above the speed limit but just imagine what that is like all day with Trucks, bikes and cars all speeding through residential areas. I can tell you it is blcensoreddy noisey and in some cases resulted in guys actually being killed due to excessive speed and bad driving.
Why not treat the 30 mph zones like pit lane speed limit, drop a gear trundle through and then exit the pits into the national limit area.
It is just a bit of discipline, then no one will be out with the council provided speed guns. Also it is usually Old folk, but it is not just them that don't like speeding it is just they are retired and can sit outside all day doing it.

I would just rather people look at the road instead of be forced to drive along staring at the speedo. A side effect of just watching the road is you might go 2mph above the limit but its still better than doing 25mph and not watching the road.

I dont know about anybody else here but i know when i go past a speed camera my focus shifts from watching the road into watching the speedo and my surroundings slide down into second on my list of priorities as my wallet is at risk for those few yards.
