At the beginning of the year i insured the OH's car under my name and she cancelled the existing policy that she had on it, we now find that the insurer transferred her no claims discount to me. I already had my own no claims discount. Is this usual, i've never heard of this before, does it mean she could transfer her no claims to her daughter when she starts to drive?

sounds like a mistake taking out the policy - they should never have given the discount in the first place if the car was in your name...

I always thought that the NCD is tied to the policy and not the person?

I started a completely new policy with my details rather than transfer it.
If the NCD goes with the policy, could her daughter take on 5 years NCD at 17 if it's transferred then?

Was it with admiral? They allow a transfer of ncd, for named drivers.
So my wife got 3 years without having held insurance previously.
So it could be a genuine error.

They can transfer between spouses, just give em a bell and get it straightened out.

Some insurers allow you to "give" your NCB to a partner/spouse but only as a one off once it's done it can't/shouldn't be transferred back.
Your OH won't be able to give your daughter her NCB.

It's with Aviva, didn't ask for the transfer and have spoken to them and will get it sorted (hopefully), just didn't think you could transfer your own safe driving record to someone else.
