Google Maps just gave me a route to drive from Bangkok to London. It used to say you couldn't go into Burma. So this is a good change. Of course the Burmese junta is still there so the drive itself is impossible.

13,946km, 7 days and 7 hours.

Longest I can find from London is Cape Town, at 15,528km.

Is anyone else feeling so utterly unproductive and wasteful that they'll try and beat that?

No. But here's another question.

On either of those two trips, what would be your chosen vehicle?

Now that statement could be misconstrued.

Horrifically so!

Google Maps doesn't seem to like Eastern Russia. It won't give me directions to Vladivostock.

.
Land Cruiser LC3 (2003 to 2008)
Coily springs, not the newer active suspension.
Economical, reliable mile muncher.

3 friends of mine took a 2004 Land Cruiser from London - Cape Town in 2007. Not one fault; not even a puncture.

I read a lot about this on some the overland forums.
The LC3, is Toyotas most economical Land Cruiser, 30 mpg no problem.
BF Goodrich All Terrains, the spare wasn't even used.

Following 'Long Way Round' would be awesome to do. Not sure a car could make it though....

Alaska to the South of South America? Unfortunately Google maps won't work for some bits, I've reached 9421 miles and there are still HUGE sections missing.

You could go down the west coast and back up the east to make it worthwhile smile Round trip would be about 30000 miles I guess.

Google's navigation engine is clearly not up to scratch! It definitely is possible, I did it back in 2009! (and then a little bit further) smile

Fantastic, I would love to do something like that!!!! You must have got some pretty strange comments with a UK numberplate through some of those countries.

Bloody well done - really inspirational!
